14 Palestinians homeless as Israel razes homes in Jerusalem

4 Oct 2019; MEMO: Israeli occupation forces demolished three houses and several commercial and agricultural structures in Jerusalem and Beit Ummar, northwest of Hebron, over a 24 hour period, claiming they were built without permits, Arab48 website reported.

The house demolished in Hebron was under construction and was 150 square metres, according to Mohamed Awad, a Palestinian activist.

Palestine becomes member of Arab League’s Human Rights Committee

4 Oct 2019; MEMO: Palestine yesterday gained membership of the Human Rights Committee of the Arab League.

The State of Palestine will be represented by Legal Adviser Majdi Hardan from the Ministry of Justice.

In accordance with the membership, Palestine will be required to report on human rights situations; in particular violations of human rights by the Israeli occupation authorities.

India: FIR Lodged Against Celebrities Who Wrote Open Letter to Modi on Mob Lynching

MUZAFFARPUR (BIHAR), OCTOBER 4; GANASHAKTI: An FIR has been filed against the 49 celebrities who wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2019, expressing concern over the rising incidence of communal violence in the country. According to PTI, the FIR has been filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including sedition, public nuisance, hurting religious feelings and insulting with an intent to provoke breach of peace.

India: Priyanka attacks Modi govt over Kashmir 'lockdown', says innocent children impacted most

New Delhi, Oct 4 (PTI) Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday attacked the Modi government over alleged lockdown in Jammu and Kashmir for the last two months, saying it has affected innocent children the most.

The Congress general secretary also tagged a media report on Twitter which claimed that children in Kashmir were away from schools and were disconnected from friends.

India: Renewed protests against CAB launched in NE states

Imphal/Kohima/Shillong, Oct 3 (PTI) Two days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah's announcement that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) would be brought in Parliament, protests were held in Manipur, Nagaland and Meghalaya on Thursday against the controversial piece of legislation.

In Imphal Valley, members of a large number of civil society bodies and university and college students held protests amid tight police security and no untoward incident was reported from any part of the state.

Pakistan woman gets Indian citizenship 35 years after application

Muzaffarnagar, Oct 4 (PTI) Thirty-five years after she applied for Indian citizenship, a Pakistani woman, married to a man in Muzaffarnagar city and residing in the country on a long-term visa, has been granted Indian nationality.

According to a local intelligence official, 55-year-old Zubeda had married Syed Mohammad Zaved, a resident of Yogenderpur locality here, 35 years ago. She had applied for Indian citizenship immediately after her marriage; however, it was not accepted on some legal grounds.

India: Woman burnt alive over dowry in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Oct 4 (PTI) A woman was allegedly burnt to death over dowry in Saidham Colony in the city, police said on Friday.

The incident happened on Thursday evening in Civil Lines police station area here.

India: AMUTA asks Centre to restore normalcy in Kashmir

Aligarh (UP), Oct 4 (PTI) Aligarh Muslim University Teachers Association (AMUTA) has asked the Centre to take urgent steps to restore normalcy in Kashmir.

The Executive committee of AMUTA in a resolution passed on Thursday said the only way forward in the valley is by "winning over the hearts of the Kashmiri people".

The resolution also cautioned the government on legitimate concerns of the people over the National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercise.

Tendency To Return Home Among Syrian Refugees In Turkey Decreases

ANKARA, Oct 4 (NNN-ANADOLU) – Surveys carried out by Turkish experts showed that, tendency to return home among Syrian refugees is decreasing.

Experts from TOBB University of Economics and Technology, Social Policy Research Centre, presented a briefing to the Turkish parliament’s commission on migration and integration on Oct 2, on the results of recent field surveys with 22,000 Syrians in Turkey.

Yemen blood bank bombed by Saudi-led coalition

3 Oct 2019; MEMO: The Saudi-led coalition yesterday admitted it carried out an air strike on a blood bank in the Yemeni capital Sanaa earlier this year by “mistake”.

The attack on the National Centre for Blood Transfusion and Research on 27 April was accidental, according to findings of the coalition’s investigative body, the Joint Incident Assessment Team (JIAT).
