India: Chidambaram produced in court

New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) Former finance minister P Chidambaram Tuesday was produced before a Delhi court on expiry of his one day CBI custody in the INX Media corruption case.

Just after an hour the apex court ordered that Chidambaram will be in the CBI custody till September 5, he was produced before Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar.

The CBI has placed an application before the court seeking two more days of Chidambaram's custody.

India manufacturing PMI drops to 15-month low in Aug

New Delhi, Sep 2 (PTI) The country's manufacturing sector activity declined to its 15-month low in August, owing to slower increases in sales, output and employment, a monthly survey said on Monday.

The IHS Markit India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), fell to 51.4 in August, its lowest mark since May 2018, from 52.5 in July, as most survey indicators fell since July to signal a widespread loss of momentum.

India: GST collections dip below Rs 1 lakh crore in Aug

New Delhi, Sep 1 (PTI) In an apparent sign of economic slowdown, India's GST collections in August dropped to Rs 98,202 crore from over Rs 1.02 lakh crore in the previous month, the finance ministry said on Sunday.

However, total Goods and Services Tax (GST) mop-up for August this year was 4.5 per cent higher than the Rs 93,960 crore collected in the same month last year.

India: Tribunal confirms ban imposed on Jamaat-e-Islami-JK

New Delhi, Sept 2 (PTI) The five-year ban imposed on Jamaat-e-Islami, Jammu and Kashmir, by the Centre for the outfit's active support to terror and secessionist activities has been confirmed by a tribunal headed by a Delhi High Court judge.

The tribunal, presided over by Justice Chander Shekhar, after going through innumerable evidence and deposition by witnesses observed that the "inescapable conclusion" is that the JeI, its office-bearers and members have been actively indulging in unlawful activities.

India's biggest car maker reports 33% decline in Aug sales

New Delhi, Sep 1 (PTI) The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India on Sunday reported a 32.7 per cent decline in sales at 1,06,413 units in August.

The company had sold 1,58,189 units in August last year, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a statement.

Domestic sales declined by 34.3 per cent at 97,061 units last month as against 1,47,700 units in August 2018, it added.

New Delhi, Sep 1 (PTI) Finding something good Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done would be like looking for a needle in a haystack, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid said on Sunday, days after some party leaders called for praising the PM whenever he does good work.

Khurshid also said the Congress has "very serious concerns" about how the country is being run.

Climate change: India seeks financial, technology support from West

New Delhi, Sep 1 (PTI) Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday said the state of the economy was "deeply worrying" and urged the government to put aside "vendetta politics" and reach out to sane voices and thinking minds to steer the economy out of this "man-made crisis".

The Congress leader said "all-round mismanagement" by the Modi government was responsible for the slowdown.

India: Jet fuel price cut by 1%, LPG rate up by Rs 15.5

New Delhi, Sep 1 (PTI) Jet fuel price on Sunday was cut by about 1 per cent to a four-month low on softening international oil prices, according to state-owned fuel retailers.

Market-priced or non-subsidised cooking gas (LPG) price was however raised by Rs 15.5 per cylinder, oil firms said in a price notification.

India: Ex-Union minister Khan, BJP leaders Soundararajan, Koshyari, Dattatreya appointed governors

New Delhi, Sep 1 (PTI) Senior BJP leaders Bhagat Singh Koshyari and Tamilisai Soundararajan were appointed as Governors of Maharashtra and Telangana on Sunday.

Former Union minister Arif Mohammed Khan and BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya were appointed as Governors of Kerala and Himachal Pradesh, respectively, according to an official statement.
