LONDON (AP) — Britain’s main opposition Labour Party said Tuesday that the country’s soon-to-be chosen new leader should hold a second referendum on whether to leave the European Union or remain in the bloc, as the two contenders for the job prepared to face a grilling in a TV debate over their plans to break Britain’s Brexit gridlock.

Mitsotakis becomes Greece's new PM on vow to end economic crisis

MOSCOW, July 9. /TASS/: The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) monitoring of fulfillment of Russia's commitments is discriminatory, Russian State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin wrote in an article for the Rossiyskaya Gazeta daily on Tuesday.

Volodin reminded that "common sense recently prevailed" in PACE, and the organization adopted a resolution on guaranteeing the rights of national delegations to vote, make speeches and participate in PACE's work.

Kremlin ban halts direct flights between Russia and Georgia

TBILISI, Georgia (AP) — A Kremlin ban on direct flights between Russia and Georgia took effect Monday, affecting thousands of travelers and dealing a serious blow to Georgia’s tourism industry.

The flight ban impacted dozens of flights operated by six Russian airlines and one Georgian airline. President Vladimir Putin introduced it following a wave of anti-Russian protests in the Georgian capital sparked by a Russian lawmaker’s appearance at the Georgian parliament.

Greece creditors say no changes in bailout terms for new PM

Conservative party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis was sworn in as Greece’s new prime minister Monday, a day after his resounding election victory on campaign pledges to cut taxes and negotiate new terms with international lenders.

Trump will ‘no longer deal’ with UK envoy who panned him

LONDON (AP) — President Donald Trump threatened Monday to cut off contact with Britain’s ambassador to the United States after leaked diplomatic cables revealed the envoy called the Trump administration “dysfunctional” and “inept.”

The U.S. leader tweeted about Ambassador Kim Darroch a day after a British newspaper published the diplomat’s unflattering assessments of the current administration in Washington.
