‘War not an excuse:’ Ukraine rail boss keeps trains running

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — The orders came from on high, from Ukraine’s president and one of his ministers: Get trains running again to the latest city newly retaken by our troops.

“So literally: tanks, then trains,” said Ukrainian rail network boss Oleksandr Kamyshin, recalling the presidential instructions he received as the southern city of Kherson was being liberated last week, ending eight months of Russian occupation.

Poland, NATO say missile strike wasn’t a Russian attack

PRZEWODOW, Poland (AP) — NATO member Poland and the head of the military alliance both said Wednesday a missile strike in Polish farmland that killed two people did not appear to be an intentional attack, and that air defenses in neighboring Ukraine likely launched the Soviet-era projectile against a Russian bombardment that savaged its power grid.

Poland says missile blast likely unfortunate accident

PRZEWODOW, Poland (AP) — Poland’s president said Wednesday that there are no indications that the missile blast in Poland that killed two people was an “intentional attack,” describing it as mostly likely an unfortunate accident.

President Andrzej Duda said it was mostly likely a Ukrainian missile that fell in Poland, but he also said that the ultimate responsibility lies with Russia, which launched a barrage of missile attacks on Ukraine on Tuesday.

Russian airstrikes reported in cities across Ukraine

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Waves of Russian airstrikes rocked Ukraine on Tuesday, with authorities immediately announcing emergency blackouts after attacks from east to west on energy and other facilities knocked out power and, in the capital, struck residential buildings.

A senior Ukrainian official, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, described the situation as “critical” and urged Ukrainians to cut back on their power usage and “hang in there.” Power provider DTEK announced emergency blackouts in the capital and authorities announced similar steps elsewhere, too.

Families reunited following Russian retreat in Ukraine

TSENTRALNE, Ukraine (AP) — Relatives embraced in the middle of the road. They squeezed hands and choked back tears. Others sobbed outside their homes. All had yearned for this same moment — to be reunited with their loved ones after Russian troops withdrew from their villages in southern Ukraine.

Zelenskyy: Battle for Kherson was D-Day-like watershed

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday likened the recapture of the southern city of Kherson to the Allied landings in France on D-Day in World War II, saying both were watersheds on the road to eventual victory.

Ukrainian police, meanwhile, announced plans to investigate alleged Russian torture sites in now-retaken areas, and U.N. investigators said they’ll look into enforced disappearances and detentions.

UN calls for probe into killing of Palestine teen girl by Israeli security forces

The United Nations coordinator for the Middle East peace process, Tor Wennesland, yesterday called for an "immediate and comprehensive investigation" into a recent Israeli killing to a teenage Palestinian girl, Fulla Masalmeh.

"Appalled by the tragic killing of a 15-year old Palestinian girl, Folah Al-Masalmah, by Israeli security forces during a raid this morning near Ramallah. My heartfelt condolences to her family & loved ones," he wrote on Twitter.

EU expands sanctions against Iran on drone supply suspicions

UBRUSSELS, November 14. /TASS/. The European Union added two individuals and two legal entities of Iran into the black list due to suspicions of drones’ supplies to Russia, according to the EU’s Official Journal.

"In view of the gravity of the situation, the [EU] Council considers that two individuals and two entities involved in the development and delivery of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to Russia should be added to the list of natural and legal persons, entities and bodies subject to restrictive measures," the document reads.

UN should pass resolution on US’ reparation of damage to many countries — Medvedev

MOSCOW, November 15. /TASS/. Having passed the resolution on Russia’s "reparations" to Ukraine, the United Nations General Assembly should now call for the United States’ reparation of damage inflicted on Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Yugoslavia and other countries, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said on Monday.
