Turkey, Israel Turn Pandemic Into Opportunity To Mend Ties

ANKARA, Apr 12 (NNN-ANADOLU) – In an interesting move that transcends years-long diplomatic standoff between the two countries, Turkey began supplying medical equipment to Israel, to help the country in its struggle against the COVID-19 outbreak.

The medical package comprises face masks, surgical gloves and protective coveralls.

China Sends Medical Expert Team To Russia

HARBIN, Apr 12 (NNN-XINHUA) – A team of 10 Chinese medical experts departed from Harbin, capital of northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, for Russia, Saturday morning, to help with its fight against the COVID-19.

The experts, specialising in laboratory testing, prevention and control of infectious diseases, respiratory diseases, intensive care and traditional Chinese medicine, are from the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Heilongjiang Provincial Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, and four hospitals in the province.

COVID-19 cases on USS Theodore Roosevelt rise to 550: Navy

WASHINGTON, April 11 (Xinhua) -- The number of COVID-19 cases on USS Theodore Roosevelt, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, has risen to 550, the U.S. Navy said on Saturday.

In an update, the U.S. Navy said 92 percent of the USS Theodore Roosevelt crew members have been tested for COVID-19, with 550 positive and 3,673 negative results, and that a total of 3,696 sailors have moved ashore.

The data came some two weeks after the ship's captain Brett Crozier sounded alarm over the outbreak when only dozens of sailors on the ship had tested positive for the virus.

US marks record over 2,100 coronavirus deaths in one day

Washington, Apr 11 (PTI) The US has become the world's first country to have registered more than 2,000 COVID-19 deaths in a single day with 2,108 fatalities reported in the past 24 hours, while the number of infections in America has crossed 500,000, the highest in the world, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

China, where the deadly coronavirus disease started in December last year before spreading across Europe and America killing more than 100,000, has so far recorded 81,000 cases of positive infections and 3,339 deaths.

Australia: Hundreds of health workers to undertake COVID-19 vaccine trial

Melbourne, Apr 11 (PTI) Hundreds of health workers in the state of South Australia will undergo a clinical trial to test whether an established tuberculosis vaccine can be used to reduce the severity of the novel coronavirus symptoms by providing a boost to the immune system.

According to the ABC science news, the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) has been researching the effects of the vaccine known as the Bacille Calmette-Guerin vaccine (BCG), for some time.

Chinese official warns of cluster Covid-19 cases amid fears of virus rebound

Beijing/Wuhan, Apr 11 (PTI) China's health authorities on Saturday asked the public to strengthen protective measures and avoid gatherings after a number of cluster infections of the coronavirus were reported in some parts of the country, sparking concerns about the re-emergence of the vicious virus.

All localities should intensify screenings and detection of Covid-19 cases, targeting key places and groups with high risks of infection, in order to minimise the risk of an epidemic rebound, Mi Feng, a spokesperson for the National Health Commission (NHC) said.

Iran begins lifting restrictions after brief virus lockdown

Authorities had ordered most government agencies and all non-essential businesses to remain closed for a week after the Nowruz holiday ended on April 4.

India: Over 3.4k inmates released from Maha jails

Mumbai, Apr 10 (PTI) The Maharashtra prisons department has released on bail 3478 prisoners till Friday to reduce crowding in jails due to the coronavirus outbreak, officials said.

These prisoners are serving jails terms of less than seven years, they said.

"While 469 prisoners were released from Arthur Road Jail, 350 were freed from Thane Central, 330 from Taloja Central, 275 from Yerawada, 151 from Amravati, 141 from Nagpur, 118 from Aurangabad Central and 100 from Nashik Central," he said.
