Hyderabad, Apr 11 (PTI): With the Telangana government banning spitting in public places in the backdrop of COVID-19 pandemic, a police case has been registered here against a man for violating the rule.

During vehicle-checking on Friday, police found the man spitting on the road here and registered a case against him for disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant, police said.

Mumbai, Apr 11 (PTI) With continuous spike in COVID-19 cases, the Maharashtra government on Saturday decided to extend the ongoing lockdown till April 30.

Making the announcement, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the lockdown can be relaxed in certain areas while on others it will become stricter.

He also said that the decision on lifting the curbs completely after April 30 will be taken depending upon the prevailing situation.

While the number of active COVID-19 cases is 6,565, as many as 642 people were cured and discharged and one had migrated, it said

OTTAWA, Apr 11 (NNN-XINHUA) – Canada could see 22,580 to 31,850 COVID-19 cases and 500 to 700 deaths by Apr 16, the Public Health Agency of Canada said.

Even with the strongest control measures in place, COVID-19 could kill between 11,000 and 22,000 Canadians, over the course of the pandemic, the agency said, in its forecast “COVID-19 in Canada: Using Data and Modelling to Inform Public Health Action.”

SINGAPORE, April 10 (NNN-CNA) – Singapore Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, promised, the state would do its best to take care of foreign workers’ health, livelihood and welfare here, and to let them go home, safe and sound, to their family members.

He said that, Singapore appreciates the work and contributions of foreign workers here, and feels responsible for their well-being.

The prime minister said, COVID-19 outbreaks were seen in several foreign worker dormitories. “Many dorms have many cases,” he added.

SYDNEY, Apr 11 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Passengers of a cruise ship, hit by the COVID-19 outbreak, were allowed to disembark at Australia’s harbour city, despite informing authorities there were 13 people sick on board.

The vessel, Ovation of the Seas, told federal authorities about its ill passengers, including three suffering high temperatures, before docking at Sydney’s Circular Quay, on Mar 18, the Seven News channel reported.

ANKARA, Apr 11 (NNN-ANADOLU) – Turkey delivered medical aid to Britain and Libya, to help fight COVID-19, Turkish Defence Ministry said, on Friday (yesterday).

“At the direction of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish Armed Forces aircraft, which will transport to the United Kingdom, the medical aid supplies, prepared by Turkey’s Health Ministry, to be used in the fight against COVID-19, has departed Ankara,” the Turkish Defence Ministry tweeted.

The medical aid cargo included protective masks and overalls.

GENEVA/ROME, Apr 11 (NNN-AGENCIES) – As some European countries, hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, are starting to see signs of slowing in infections, the World Health Organisation (WHO) sounded a stern warning, against lifting restrictions too soon, saying, it could lead to a deadly resurgence of COVID-19.

“In the past week, we’ve seen a welcome slowing in some of the hardest-hit countries in Europe, like Spain, Italy, Germany and France,” WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said.

JERUSALEM, Apr 11 (NNN-MA’AN) – The number of COVID-19 cases in Israel topped 10,000, with 95 deaths, the health ministry said Friday.

The ministry said, nine people died and 440 more tested positive for COVID-19, raising the total number of cases to 10,408, including 167, who are in critical condition, while at least 1,061 have recovered.

The government has taken a number of steps to stem the spread of the virus, including closing all educational institutions and banning gatherings of more than 10 in open or closed public areas. 

ROME, Apr 11 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Italian Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, extended the country’s national COVID-19 lock-down to “at least” May 3.

“The national quarantine will be extended to at least May 3,” Conte said. “The decision is not an easy one, but it is what the situation required.”

The prime minister’s announcement came, about one month after the first decree went into force. Since then, Conte has periodically strengthened the terms of the lock-down and extended its length.
