India: 300 units of free electricity from July 1 in Punjab

Chandigarh, Apr 16 (PTI) The Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government in Punjab announced 300 units of free electricity to households from July 1.

The announcement was made in advertisements published by the state's information and public relations department in various newspapers on Saturday.

It was related to a 30-day report card of the AAP government in Punjab. A formal announcement is expected to be made later on Saturday.

Giving 300 units of free electricity was one of the major poll promises of the Aam Aadmi Party in the Punjab assembly election.

India: Man gets life term for murdering Dalit worker in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Apr 15 (PTI) A special court trying Schedule Caste/Schedule Tribe cases on Friday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing a Dalit worker.

Special Judge Jamshed Ali also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on convict Popin Kumar after holding him guilty under IPC section 302 (murder) and the SC/ST Act.

India: Fuel sales fall in April on high prices

New Delhi, Apr 16 (PTI) India's fuel sales fell in the first half of April as a record rise in prices in a short 16-day period dented demand, preliminary industry data showed on Saturday.

Petrol sales fell almost 10 per cent in the first half of April when compared with the same period in the preceding month, while diesel demand slid 15.6 per cent.

Even cooking gas LPG, which had consistently shown growth even during the pandemic period, saw a 1.7 per cent month-on-month fall in consumption during April 1-15.

India: In a hurry youth lost life at Dada Nagar railways crossing

Kanpur: A heart-wrenching accident took place today morning at the Dada Nagar crossing here.

In an attempt to drag the bike from under the closed gate, the youth got hit by the train. He died on the spot.

The accident was so terrible that the bike got blown up. The body of the young man was also mutilated.

The GRP informed the relatives after identifying the documents found in the pocket of the deceased and on the mobile.

Unknown disease kills 7 children in India's Rajasthan

Egypt approves India as wheat supplier

New Delhi, Apr 15 (PTI) Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday said Egypt, which is one of the largest importers of wheat from Ukraine and Russia, has approved India as a wheat supplier.

There is a sharp decline in availability of wheat in the global markets due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Both the nations are major producers and exporters of wheat.

India: Curfew relaxed for 2 hours in riot-hit Khargone city

Khargone (MP), Apr 15 (PTI) Curfew was relaxed on Friday for two hours in the riot-hit Khargone city of Madhya Pradesh to allow people to buy essential commodities, a senior official said.

The curfew, imposed on Sunday evening after riots broke out in the city during Ram Navami celebrations, was relaxed for all from 10 am to 12 pm, Khargone collector Anugraha P said.

However, people were not allowed to use vehicles during the period and they can make purchases from nearby shops, she said.
