India: Rape victim dies at hospital in UP's Gorakhpur

Sant Kabir Nagar (UP), Apr 11 (PTI) A 22-year-old woman, who was allegedly raped and severely beaten up by a youth, died in a Gorakhpur hospital on Monday, police said.

Police were informed on Monday that the woman was founds seriously injured in front of her house and her family members admitted her to a hospital from where she was referred to Gorakhpur for treatment, SP Dr Kaustubh said.

She was undergoing treatment in the Gorakhpur hospital where she died on Monday, the SP said.

India: 38 cows perish as fire engulfs UP's Ghaziabad goshala

Ghaziabad, Apr 11 (PTI) Thirty-eight cows were charred to death after a fire broke out at a dumpyard here and engulfed a cow shelter nearby, officials said.

The incident took place around 1.30 pm at the goshala in Kanawani village under the Indirapuram police station limits, they said.

According to Suraj Pandit, the operator of the Shri Krishna Goshala, there were around 150 cows at the facility at the time of the blaze, which was suspected to have been triggered by a fire in a dumpyard close to it.

Indian PM Modi and US President hold virtual meeting

New Delhi, Apr 11 (PTI) In a virtual meeting with US President Joe Biden, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday night hoped that the ongoing talks between Russia and Ukraine will pave the way for peace in the conflict-torn country.

In his opening remarks, Modi described the recent reports of the killing of innocent civilians in Bucha city as "very worrying" and said India immediately condemned it and demanded a fair investigation.

The prime minister referred to his phone conversation with the Presidents of both Ukraine and Russia.

India: Stones hurled at Asansol BJP candidate's vehicle

Kolkata, Apr 12 (PTI) Stones were hurled allegedly at the vehicle of BJP's Lok Sabha bypoll candidate Agnimitra Paul on Tuesday morning, leading to tensions in Asansol.

Around 10 per cent turnout was recorded till 9 am in the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency and Ballygunge assembly segment where by-elections were underway, the Election Commission said.

Stones were hurled when security personnel baton-charged a group of TMC supporters who gheraoed Paul's vehicle, alleging that she tried to enter a polling booth along with her guards.

Indian gov nods to prosecute Amnesty International's Aakar Patel

New Delhi, Apr 12 (PTI) The Centre has given the go ahead to the CBI to prosecute Amnesty International India and its former chief Aakar Patel for alleged violations of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), paving way for a special court to take cognisance of its charge sheet filed on December 31, 2021, officials said on Tuesday.

The CBI had sought the sanction of the government to prosecute the international human rights organisation because of mandatory clause of Section 40 of the FCRA

Indian rupee falls 23 paise to close at 76.14 against US dollar

This 20-Rakat prayer remains additional to the five-time daily obligatory prayer.

India: Two girls with fake allotment papers for MBBS admission reach GSVM

Kanpur: Two female students sought admission to an MBBS course at Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College here on forged allotment letters.

The matter surfaced on Monday when both the students, along with their families, reached the students' section. They are reported to have produced fake allotment letters before the college authorities for admission.

GSVM College principal Dr Sanjay Kala immediately informed the police about the incident.
