india: Online registration for drone operation starts

Mumbai, Dec 1 (PTI) Civil Aviation Ministry announced Saturday it has started the registration process for drone operators in the country, to be done through a portal called 'Digital Sky'.

The government, in August, had put in place regulations for operations of remotely piloted aircraft, to come into effect from December 1.

Under these norms, drone users will be required to do one-time registration of their drones. They will also need to register the pilots of drones as well as their owners.

India beat Australia by 6 wickets to level T20 series

Sydney, Nov 25 (PTI) India defeated Australia by six wickets in the final T20 International to share the spoils in the three-match series here Sunday.

D'Arcy Short (33) was the top-scorer for Australia, while Krunal Pandya picked up four wickets for India.

Chasing the target, skipper Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 61 while Shikhar Dhawan made 41.

Australia won the first T20 International by four runs via D/L method before the second match was abandoned due to rain.

Croatia clinch 3-1 victory over France to win Davis Cup

25 Nov 2018; AFP: Marin Cilic beat France's Lucas Pouille in straight sets on Sunday to give Croatia an unassailable lead in the Davis Cup final.

Cilic won 7-6 (7/3), 6-3, 6-3, to dethrone defending champions France and secure Croatia's second Davis Cup, 13 years after their first.

Pouille took Cilic to a tie-break in the first set but could not mount a challenge in the next two, losing in two hours, 19 minutes.

Croatia won all three singles matches in straight sets.

Hockey World Cup: India beat Argentina 5-0 in warm-up

Bhubaneswar, Nov 23 (PTI) Indian hockey team geared up for the men's World Cup with a 5-0 thrashing of reigning Olympic champions Argentina in its first warm-up match here on Friday.

Harmanpreet Singh, Lalit Upadhyay, Dilpreet, Nilakanta Sharma and Hardik Singh were the scorers for the Indian team, while Argentina drew a blank.

The first and third goals were penalty corner conversions, while the rest were field goals.

India: Shamim beats Gaurav in play-off, retains title

Digboi, Nov 24 (PTI) Seasoned golfer Shamim Khan of Delhi got the better of Noida's Gaurav Pratap Singh in a nail-biting play-off to retain the title at the IndianOil Servo Masters Golf tournament here on Saturday.

Shamim (70-70-65-74) had edged out Veer Ahlawat in a playoff last year at the Digboi Golf Links and he repeated the feat for the second year in succession after Gaurav (72-68-69-70) took him into the playoff.

Mumbai, Nov 10 (PTI) Fifth seed Fahad Mohammed of Tamil Nadu outclassed Pune teenager Atharva Sharma 6-4, 6-2 in the singles final of the J S Pereira Memorial AITA Ranking mens tennis tournament here Saturday.

The 22-year-old Mohammed, who trains at the Just Tennis Academy in Chennai, was quite consistent with his serves and with clever change of tactics unsettled his 18-year -old opponent who did well to keep pace till 4-all in the first set.

Cricketer Imam's head injury overshadows Pakistan triumph

Abu Dhabi, Nov 10 (AFP) Pakistan beat New Zealand by six wickets in the second day-night international in Abu Dhabi on Friday but the match was overshadowed by a worrying injury to opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq who was taken to hospital after being hit on the head by a short ball.

Imam, on 16, was forced to retire after a short delivery from fast bowler Lockie Ferguson hit the grille of his helmet, making him dizzy before he fell to the ground.

His eyes were closed but he did not lose consciousness.

Giants hire Farhan Zaidi away from Dodgers

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Former Dodgers general manager Farhan Zaidi is the new president of baseball operations for the San Francisco Giants.

The Giants announced the hiring Tuesday night and planned a formal introduction at AT&T Park on Wednesday, a day before they hold a public celebration of life for late Hall of Famer Willie McCovey.

Baseball executives are meeting this week for the GM meetings in Carlsbad, California, and Giants CEO Larry Baer knew it might take this long to find the right person to push the department in a fresh direction.

Magnificent Rohit leads India to another series win

Lucknow, Nov 6 (PTI) Skipper Rohit Sharma's record-breaking fourth T20 International hundred powered India to a comprehensive 71-run win over West Indies in what turned out to be another one-sided series victory for the hosts.

India, thus, took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20 series. The last T20 will be played in Chennai on November 11.

The legend of Rohit in white ball format continued to grow exponentially as his unbeaten 111 off 61 balls helped India score 195 for 2 after being put into bat.

Lucknow, Nov 7 (PTI) Young pacer Khaleel Ahmed, who convinced his skipper to hand him the new ball in the second Twenty20 against the West Indies, says he thrives on responsibility and never lets pressure affect his performance.

Khaleel pegged the West Indies back with two early wickets and according to India's stand-in captain Rohit Sharma it was the 20-year-old who insisted on bowling with the new ball along with seasoned Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
