Former Israeli Minister Convicted Of Corruption In “Submarine Affair” Case

JERUSALEM, Oct 4 (NNN-XINHUA) – A former Israeli minister was found guilty yesterday of breach of trust, in a bribery case involving a multi-billion-U.S. dollar deal, to purchase naval vessels from Germany’s ThyssenKrupp conglomerate.

Eliezer Sandberg, who was convicted by the Tel Aviv District Court in a plea bargain, is expected to be sentenced to seven months of community service, and pay a fine of 50,000 new shekels (14,081 U.S. dollars.)

Israel warm to draft Lebanese demarcation deal, sees gas profit-sharing

2 October 2022; MEMO: Israel gave its preliminary nod on Sunday to a draft US-brokered deal demarcating a maritime border with Lebanon that could lead to possible profit-sharing from future gas production by Beirut in a long-disputed Mediterranean prospect, Reuters reported.

Hoping to defuse one source of conflict between the enemy countries and perhaps prod them toward accommodation, US envoy Amos Hochstein last week submitted a new proposal that would pave the way for offshore energy exploration.

Israel warns Russian citizens they might be drafted to fight Ukraine

1 October 2022; MEMO: Following Vladimir Putin's declaration of a partial call-up, Israel warned its dual citizens that they might be drafted to fight in Ukraine, Israeli media reported on Friday.

In a statement, Israel's Foreign Ministry announced: "Israeli citizens who hold Russian citizenship who enter, stay in, or will visit inside the borders of the Russian Federation, will be subject to Russian laws and regulations."

Israeli Elections Committee Bars Arab Party From Running In Upcoming Elections

JERUSALEM, Sept 30 (NNN-PNA) – An Israeli-Arab party was disqualified from running in the country’s Nov elections, over allegations of promoting an anti-Israel agenda.

With nine members voting in favour and five against, Israel’s Central Elections Committee said in a statement, that it accepted the request to disqualify Balad on the basis that the party allegedly supports the cancellation of Israel as “a Jewish and democratic state.”

Palestinian boy, 7, dies after being chased by Israel army

29 Sep 2022; MEMO: A 7-year-old Palestinian child died, Thursday, while being chased by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank, according to the Health Ministry, Anadolu News Agency reports.

A Ministry statement said Rayyan Suleiman, from the town of Tuqu near Bethlehem city, had fallen from a height while running away from Israeli soldiers.

Medics failed to save his life and he was pronounced dead shortly after being admitted to Beit Jala Hospital, the statement said.

Israel Elections Committee bans Arab NDA (Balad) party from running

30 Sep 2022; MEMO: The Israeli Central Elections Committee yesterday approved a motion to ban the National Democratic Assembly (Balad) from running in the upcoming Knesset elections.

The committee voted with nine ballots being placed to ban the party and five against the motion. The committee accuses Balad, led by MK Sami Abu Shehadeh, is "undermining Israel as a Jewish and democratic state" and "incitement to racism".

Israel green lights use of drones to assassinate Palestinians in West Bank

29 Sep 2022; MEMO: The Israeli army has green lighted the use of armed drones to carry out assassinations against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, Israeli media reported on Thursday, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Army Chief, Aviv Kochavi, gave his approval to use the armed drones for assassinations and "to carry out strikes should armed gunmen be identified as posing imminent threats to the troops," reported The Jerusalem Post.
