CAIRO (AP) — Militias patrolled nearly deserted streets in Libya’s capital Sunday, a day after clashes killed over 30 people and ended Tripoli’s monthslong stretch of relative calm.

The fighting broke out early Saturday and pitted militias loyal to the Tripoli-based government against other armed groups allied with a rival administration that has for months sought to be seated in the capital.

Residents fear the fighting that capped a monthslong political deadlock could explode into a wider war and a return to the peaks of Libya’s long-running conflict.

CAIRO (AP) — Deadly clashes broke out Saturday in Libya’s capital between militias backed by its two rival administrations, portending a return to violence amid a long political stalemate.

At least 13 civilians were killed and over 95 wounded, the Health Ministry said. It added that 64 families were evacuated from areas around the fighting.

25 August 2022; MEMO: Egyptians working around the world transferred $31.9 billion to Egypt in the fiscal year 2021/22, up from $31.5 billion in 2020/21, a 1.6 per cent increase, the Central Bank of Egypt said in a statement yesterday.

The statement indicated that the period from April to June 2022 witnessed an increase in remittances by three per cent, recording $8.3 billion, compared to $8.1 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.

22 August 2022; MEMO: We Record has released a new video that appears to show a man being extrajudicially executed in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.

In the video, the man's hands are handcuffed behind his back and he begs for his life before he is shot at close range and his body rolls over the desert terrain.

We Record told MEMO they think the extrajudicial killing was carried out this month and that another video from July shows the same man surrendering to local forces.

CAIRO, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and visiting President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Sunday underlined the importance of strengthening joint Arab action and Arab unity to cope with challenges facing the Arab region.

The two leaders made the remarks in a meeting at El Alamein, a coastal city in northern Egypt, during which they also exchanged views on both international and regional issues, Egypt's presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement.

22 August 2022; MEMO: Former presidential candidate Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh has said that he is "subject to slow death" in an Egyptian prison, news agencies reported on Sunday.

According to his son, Hothaifa, Aboul Fotouh added that, "The administration in Al-Mazraa Prison refuses to carry out a medical examination despite several health crises, strokes and blood clots."
