9m migrants, refugees from 130 countries live in Egypt: IOM

10 August 2022; MEMO: The International Organisation for Migration has said that there are more than nine  million migrants and refugees from 130 countries currently living in Egypt.

This figure includes the four main communities – four million Sudanese, 1.5 million Syrians, one million Yemenis and one million Libyans.

Egypt, Qatar Discussed Regional Developments, Highlighted Concerted Arab Efforts

CAIRO, Aug 10 (NNN-MENA) – Egyptian President, Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, and Qatari Emir, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, discussed yesterday, latest regional developments, highlighting concerted Arab efforts, to address regional challenges, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement.

In their phone conversation, the Qatari Emir expressed appreciation for Egypt’s latest success, in mediating a cease-fire between the Palestinians and Israelis in the Gaza Strip, calling it, part of the country’s efforts to strengthen regional peace and security, according to the statement.

Egypt-China Friendship Association in Cairo marks 100th anniversary of CPC's founding

CAIRO, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Egypt-China Friendship Association held a seminar on Sunday here to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The seminar was attended by Egyptian experts on Chinese affairs, writers, diplomats, and professors of Chinese studies at Egyptian universities.

Egypt Mediates Between Israel, Palestinian Factions To End Gazan Tensions: Official

CAIRO, Aug 6 (NNN-MENA) – Egypt is mediating between Israel and the Palestinian factions, in an effort to end the ongoing tensions in the Gaza Strip, and preserve the 2021 cease-fire, official Ahram online news website reported yesterday.

“Egypt is conducting intensive communications with the Palestinian and the Israeli sides, to end the ongoing escalation in Gaza,” an Egyptian official told a local TV channel, according to Ahram.

“Our goal is the continuation of the cease-fire, the stability of the region, and the safeguarding of the peace,” he said.

Egypt: birth rate declines by 30% since 2015

02 August 2022; MEMO: The birth rate in Egypt has fallen by 30 per cent since 2015, the health ministry in Cairo announced yesterday.

"On the occasion of the National Population Day, the government can announce that it has reduced the country's birth rate from 30.2 births per 1,000 people in 2015 to 21.2 in 2021," said ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.

4,500-Year-Old Mud-Brick Building Remains Uncovered In Egypt

CAIRO, Jul 31 (NNN-MENA) – An Italian-Polish archaeological mission, uncovered remains of a mud-brick building, believed to be one of the lost “sun temples,” dating back to the Fifth Dynasty of ancient Egypt (2465 to 2323 BC).

The building was found under the temple of King Nyuserre in Abusir region, south of Cairo, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities and Tourism, yesterday.

“Preliminary studies indicate that, the new discovery may be one of the four lost sun temples, that date back to the Fifth Dynasty,” the ministry statement said.

Egypt Rejects Ethiopia’s Continued Filling Of Nile Dam

CAIRO, Jul 30 (NNN-MENA) – Egypt sent a letter yesterday, to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), to object to Ethiopia’s continued filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

“Egypt completely rejects Ethiopia’s continuation of filling the GERD unilaterally, without reaching an agreement with Egypt and Sudan,” said Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, in a letter addressed to the UNSC.

Russian FM Visits Egypt In First African Tour During Russian-Ukrainian Conflict

CAIRO, Jul 25 (NNN-MENA) – Egyptian President, Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, held talks yesterday, with visiting Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov in Cairo, where they discussed bilateral relations and regional and global issues of mutual concern.

Lavrov handed to Sisi a letter from Russian President, Vladimir Putin, expressing importance Russia attaches to consolidating bilateral ties with Egypt, within the framework of the “strategic partnership and cooperation agreement between the two countries,” the Egyptian presidency said in a statement.
