Malaysian FM to visit Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and attend NAM Coordination Bureau meeting in Azerbaijan

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), July 2 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian Foreign Minister Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir will pay an official visit to Kyrgyzstan and a working visit to Uzbekistan for two days starting Monday.

Zambry in a statement on Sunday said he will next go to Baku, Azerbaijan to participate in the Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement (CoB-NAM) at the Foreign Ministers level from July 5 to 6.

Malaysia state assemblies dissolved ahead of key local elections

KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Several Malaysian state assemblies were dissolved on Wednesday ahead of key local elections that will determine six new state governments.

The states of Terengganu, Penang and Kedah dissolved their state assemblies on Wednesday, while Kelantan and Selangor were dissolved on Thursday and Friday, respectively. The remaining state assembly of Negeri Sembilan will be dissolved on Saturday, according to state news agency Bernama.

Malaysia demonstrates strong commitment to women’s voice, opportunity in diplomacy

Malaysia is 20th in the World’s Strong Starters Ranking

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), June 22 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia is 20th in the World’s Strong Starters Ranking list, based on the Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2023 published by Startup Genome.

The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (MOSTI) said in a statement Thursday that the achievement was thanks to efforts to develop an ecosystem for startups based on the Malaysia Startup Ecosystem Roadmap 2021-2030 (SUPER), led by startup coordinating agency, Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd, and the result of lively funding activities associated to startups.

Malaysian Fm Zambry Will Not Be Able To Attend Informal Discussion On Myanmar In Thailand

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), June 18 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian Foreign Minister Dr Zambry Abd Kadir will not be able to attend an informal discussion on Myanmar scheduled to be held in Thailand, on Monday.

The Malaysian Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) in a statement cited prior commitment the reason being Zambry’s inability to attend the discussion proposed by Thailand. 

Malaysian Ringgit Opens Higher Vs Us Dollar Amid Cautious Sentiments

KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 (NNN-Bernama) — The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar this morning despite the prevailing cautious sentiments surrounding China’s economic growth. 

At 9.04 am, the local note strengthened to 4.6100/6155 against the greenback from 4.6235/6280 at Thursday’s close.   

Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist and social finance head Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the ringgit is anticipated to move within a tight range of around RM4.62, given the mixed signals this week. 

Malaysia's wholesale, retail trade up 6.3 pct in April

KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's wholesale and retail trade recorded a monthly sales value of 136 billion ringgit (29.45 billion U.S. dollars) in April, growing 6.3 percent year-on-year, official data showed Monday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the growth was attributed to the retail trade sub-sector, which increased 12.9 percent to 60.5 billion ringgit, supported by retail sales in non-specialized stores.

Malaysian PM denies claims that judiciary system used for political revenge

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian Prime Minister Menteri Anwar Ibrahim denied claims that he was using the country’s judiciary system to seek political revenge against certain individuals.

Anwar said instead he always respected the judiciary system in the country, including not interfering in decisions made by the Attorney-General or judges on any said case.

“If revenge was on my mind or my intention, many would have been sent to the Sungai Buloh prison (in the state of Selangor) already, but I know the need to defend the principles of adhering to the law.

Malaysia’s Manufacturing PMI Down To 47.8 In May

KUALA LUMPUR, Jun 1 (NNN-BERNAMA) – The seasonally adjusted S&P Global Malaysia Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), posted 47.8 in May, down from 48.8 in Apr, S&P Global Market Intelligence said today.

The latest reading signalled further challenges for firms in the manufacturing sector with business conditions moderating to a great extent since Jan, the global research house said.

Malaysia detains Chinese barge on suspicion of looting WWII British warship wrecks

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysia’s maritime agency said Monday it found a cannon shell believed to be from World War II on a Chinese-registered vessel and was investigating if the barge carrier was involved in the looting of two British warship wrecks in the South China Sea.

Malaysian media reported that illegal salvage operators were believed to have targeted the HMS Repulse and the HMS Prince of Wales, which were sunk in 1941 by Japanese torpedoes, days after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
