Shahjahanpur (UP), Feb 24 (PTI) A college student who was found without clothes and severely burnt lying along a national highway in Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh has claimed she was set on fire after a failed attempt to gang-rape her, police said on Wednesday.

According to Superintendent of Police S Anand, the girl told investigators that three people tried to rape her in a field near Rai Kheda village on Monday and when they did not succeed, they poured kerosene and set her on fire.

Kanpur: Mayor Pramila Pandey has convened Nagar Nigam House to conduct an executive committee election on Feb 28.

According to a news report, BJP will fight on five seats.

It has also been informed that the term of six members of the executive committee was over in December 2020. 

As many as six members will be elected. The name of the corporations from the Party has been finalised.

There will be a tough fight for the seats, as is being expected.

Ballia (UP), Feb 23 (PTI) A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in her village here, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on the night of February 18 under Gadwar police station area. The accused has been arrested, they said.

According to the complaint lodged by the girl's mother, their neighbour, Pawan, called the minor to his house on the pretext of some work and raped her, Station House Officer (SHO) Rajiv Singh said.

An FIR has been lodged and the accused arrested, he said.

New Delhi, Feb 23 (PTI) Donning traditional turbans and singing songs of the peasant movement, farmers protesting at Delhi borders against the three agri laws on Tuesday marked the Pagdi Sambhal Divas.

Called by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), the day-long event was inspired by the Pagdi Sambhal Lehar of 1906.

Hardoi (UP), Feb 23 (PTI) A local court here awarded death penalty to a man for raping and killing an 18-month-old girl.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on the convict.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Chandra Vijay Shrinet on Monday held Guddu, alias Gullu, guilty of the crime and awarded death sentence.

District Government Advocate Ramchandra Rajput on Tuesday said the girl was raped and murdered in 2014. After killing her, the victim threw the body in a village pond.

Kaushambi, Feb 23 (PTI) One of the accused persons arrested in connection with the alleged gangrape of a minor girl in a village here, on Tuesday escaped from police custody in Allahabad.

Superintendent of Police Abhinandan said that Gulshan, an accused person along with another person was arrested on February 20 following an encounter. Gulshan got leg injury in the encounter, after which he was admitted to SRN Hospital in Allahabad. On Tuesday morning, he gave a slip to two cops posted there.

Mahoba (UP), Feb 24 (PTI) A teenage Dalit girl was allegedly raped and beaten up in Mahoba district in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Wednesday.

A police officer said two men -- identified as Rohit Yadav and Kallu Rajput -- were arrested on Tuesday following a complaint filed by the girl's father.

According to the complaint, Kallu Rajput thrashed the 16-year-old girl and Rohit Yadav allegedly raped her at her house in the Panwadi police station area on Sunday.

Banda (UP), Feb 24 (PTI) An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her uncle in the district, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Monday night when the girl was sleeping in her house. The accused, Shubham (20), took her to his house and allegedly raped her, Station House Officer (SHO) City Kotwali Jaishyam Shukla said.

When the girl's parents found her missing in the morning, they searched for her and later informed the police, he said.

Gonda (UP), Feb 24 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped and stabbed in a village here, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening when the girl, a student of class 10, was returning from her school on a bicycle and four people dragged her into a farm and allegedly raped her. She was also stabbed with a knife when she offered resistance, Superintendent of Police (SP) Shailesh Kumar Pandey said.

Kanpur: It is not more than a week in the final examinations of the schools. The students are gearing up for study. However, the momentum that remained slow owing to online classes gets boosting up.

One said: "My parents are normal as they are not pressurising me to study extra. I am also not worried. Preparations are going on the normal way."

Another simply stated: "Exams are giving me uneasy thinking. I find myself dangling between to be or not to be."
