India: Denizens welcome 24-hour power supply in Kanpur

Kanpur: Several think that 24-hour electricity supply in the district would help in maintaining social distancing when the Covid fear in this big city is rocketing as the trend shows.

One said that lesser power cuts which remain a regular feature will help denizens stay behind the door under comfortable condition. They will hesitate in moving out of the houses. Thus, there will be a limited crowd on the road. Only those will move out who will find it too necessary to go out.

India: Man rips open pregnant wife's stomach in UP to check sex of featus

Badaun (UP), Sep 19 (PTI) In a loathsome incident, a father of five daughters here allegedly ripped open the stomach of his pregnant wife on Saturday evening allegedly to find out if she was going to deliver a son this time.

Pannalal slit the stomach of his wife, aged around 35, with a sharp-edged weapon in the Nekpur locality under the Civil Lines police station area, injuring her seriously, SP (City) Pravin Singh Chauhan said.

India: Woman raped by youth in UP's Gonda

Gonda (UP), Sep 19 (PTI) A married woman was allegedly raped by a youth in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district while on her way to her in-laws house, police said on Saturday.

The incident happened on Friday evening in a village under Khondare police station area, they said, adding that the accused youth was arrested.

The woman was returning from her parents place along with her children.

India: UP STF nabs 4 men for credit card fraud worth crores

Noida (UP), Sep 18 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh Police's Special Task Force (STF) on Friday arrested four Delhi-based men accused of duping multiple banks to the tune of crores of rupees, officials said.

The men allegedly got credit cards made on forged documents and used stolen Cibil scores (a consumer's credit details) for that purpose, they said.

The accused were held near the Sector 16A-located Filmcity by the Noida unit of the STF, the officials said.

India: Leather exporters undergo whirl of pandemic

Kanpur: Why this year is proving to be so painful to the leather exporters? Not only the exports have been decreased but also there were no remarkable orders from foreign buyers.

According to the report of the Leather Export Council, the export has been gone down to 48 per cent. This is a big fall in terms of the business. Was it due to the Corona pandemic?

Dwelling upon this unstable situation, the Council's regional chairman Javed Iqbal said that there was running despondency among the exporters, adding that the exports from April to August have been reduced to half.

India: Adityanath govt mulls ordinance against 'love jihad'

Lucknow, Sep 18 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked officials to formulate a strategy and bring an ordinance if required to prevent religious conversions in the name of love, an official said on Friday.

It has been seen in the recent past that women have been made to convert in the name of love and marriage and later subjected to cruelty and even murder," the official who did not wished to be named said.

India: Spreading awareness thru their tryst with cycling

Kanpur: It is definitely not an easier but arduous task. The two cyclists have really stunned everyone by their enthusiastic and energetic spirit.

One person is a 60-year-old man Thakur Das Sasmal of Kolkata and another one is 40 years old Mukesh Manna.

Both have arrived after cycling a very long distance in Naubasta area here on Tuesday. They will move to Delhi from this place. 

Their mission is to spread awareness in regard to the value of social distancing, wearing a face mask and the need for sensitisation during the scary time.

India: Hindu Yuva Vahini leader stabbed to death in UP

Bareilly (UP), Sep 17 (PTI) A Hindu Yuva Vahini leader was on Thursday stabbed to death here in a case of love triangle, police said.

The youth group 'Hindu Yuva Vahini' was formed by Yogi Adityanath in 2002.

Sanjay Singh Bhadauria (35) was stabbed to death in Anandpur locality by a person identified as Imran, police said.

"Both Imran and Sanjay were in love with a girl. This prima facie appears to be the cause of the murder," SSP Rohit Singh Sajwan said.

India: Girl raped in UP's Banda, accused thrashed by her family

Banda (UP), Sep 18 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth who was then severely beaten up by her family members in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district, police said on Friday.

According to the FIR lodged on Wednesday by the mother of the girl, the incident took place last Saturday when the minor was on her way to home after attending to nature's call, police said.

The girl's mother has also registered a case against the gram pradhan and some others for threatening her family.
