India: Dufferin Hospital suffers from sewer sorrows

Kanpur: Sewer sorrows prevail at the Dufferin Hospital. The patients' attendants and the hospital staff face proportional discomfort owing to the persisting drainage system failure.

The hospital and the Jal Kal officers are at daggers drawn due to the delay in the exact solution of the bursting of the drains within the hospital campus.

Lengthier the problem stretches out, the suffering of the patients will continue to increase with the time.

India: Woman raped by school chairman in UP

Noida (UP), Sep 8 (PTI) A 20-year-old woman was allegedly raped by the chairman of a private school in Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida, following which the accused was arrested on Tuesday, police said.

The incident took place in the accused's car last Friday in the Ecotech 3 police station area, they said.

"The complainant had met with the 35-year-old chairman of the school recently because she needed a transfer certificate (TC) for her younger brother, a Class 8 student," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Women Safety) Vrinda Shukla said.

India: HC stays demolition of Azam Khan's resort

Allahabad, Sep 8 (PTI) The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday stayed the demolition of a resort of Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan in Ramgarh till a decision is taken on his appeal.

The order was passed by a two-judge bench of justices S K Gupta and Piyush Agrawal on a petition filed by Khan's wife Tazeen Fatima against the order of demolition by the Uttar Pradesh government date August 27.

It is alleged that the resort is built on government land.

Counsel for the petitioner said the appeal would be filed within two weeks from today.

India: DL section may shift to new ARTO office in Panki

Kanpur: Planning to transfer the driving license section of the existing ARTO office in Sarvodaya Nagar is in the process.

Presently the ARTO office exists at Sarvodaya Nagar in Ward no 64 while the new office is going to be built at Panki in Ward no 50.

Talking over this change the ARTO (Admin) Sanjay Singh said there was a plan to shift the DL section to the new office where the testing track equipped with the sensors were ready for the needed purpose.

India: UP lifts weekend curbs on markets

Lucknow, Sep 8 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday revoked its order of mandatory closure of markets on Sunday, reverting to the pre-coronavirus lockdown arrangement.

According to a statement, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said in a review meeting that markets will now close as per their earlier schedule instead of the weekly closure on Sunday.

He said except containment zones, hotels and restaurants should be made operational in all areas and it should be ensured that all safety measures are followed.

India: UP govt suspends Allahabad SSP Abhishek Dixit

Lucknow, Sep 8 (PTI) Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath suspended Allahabad Senior Superintendent of Police Abhishek Dixit on Tuesday for his failure to control crime and corruption and maintain law and order, said Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi.

Dixit is also charged with not following the instructions of the government/headquarters properly and is accused of promoting corruption, a home department spokesperson added.

India: KMC opts out solar energy to save electricity expenses

Kanpur: In continuation of its money-saving campaign the Nagar Nigam prepares itself to bring in use the rooftop solar energy plant. A solar panel with a capacity of 100 KW will be installed on the top of its office.

Throwing light on this step, Akshay Tripathi, Nagar Ayukt, KMC, expressed that it was expected to begin the solar panelling work in this ongoing month. 

In the meantime, the UPNEDA has received a budget of Rs 42 Lakh for this very purpose.

Lucknow, Sep 6 (PTI) Accusing the Yogi Adityanath government of ignoring the youths' problems, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday demanded a youth charter envisaging the solution to their problems in a time-bound manner.

"The anger among youths against the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is increasing. Despite opposition from several quarters, examinations are being conducted during the pandemic. In the name of jobs, the youths are being misled, said former chief minister Yadav in a statement.

India: Lucknow Metro resumes services after 5 months

Lucknow, Sep 7 (PTI) The Lucknow Metro resumed services on Monday after being closed for over five months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The services started at 6 am at all 16 stations with a thin crowd but the number of passengers increased later in the day, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation PRO Panchanan Mishra told PTI.

The Lucknow Metro became the first metro service in the country to use ultraviolet (UV) technology for token sanitisation to ensure the safety of passengers, he said.
