India: SC agrees to urgently hear wife's plea for Manish case

Kanpur: The petitioner has alleged that her husband died after being assaulted by the police during a raid.
The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to list a plea for urgent hearing.

It was filed by the wife of Kanpur property dealer Manish Gupta, who had died at a hotel in Gorakhpur, as was reported.

The petitioner's lawyer asked the court to list the case for hearing on Friday.

During Thursday's hearing, Meenakshi Gupta's lawyer said that the central agency was yet to take over the case.

India: IIT-K & JK Cement to work on super speciality hospital

Kanpur: The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and JK Cement Limited have cooperated to work on a super speciality hospital on campus (SMRT), as a part of the Institution's ambition to build a School of Medical Research and Technology. 

Among those who signed the pact were Abhay Karandikar, director of IIT Kanpur, and Raghavpat Singhania, managing director of JK Cement Ltd.

The partnership is part of IIT Kanpur's commitment to bring about a paradigm shift in the country's approach to medical research and innovation.

India: 5-year-old raped by teenage boy in UP's Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, Oct 27 (PTI) A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 13-year-old boy here, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place in a colony under the Vijay Nagar police station limits on Tuesday evening, SP City (First) Nipun Agarwal said.

The girl had gone for tuition with her brother. Her teacher was not present at home but her son was present there. In the meantime , the victim's brother went to his home to attend the nature's call and was sent to market by his mother.

India: Man gets 14 years jail term for raping minor in UP

Muzaffarnagar (UP) Oct 28 (PTI) A special POCSO court here has sentenced a man to 14 years of imprisonment for raping a 16-year-old girl in 2019.

Sanjiv Kumar Tiwari, the special judge, also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Teenu, the convict, after holding him guilty on Wednesday under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 376 (punishment for rape), and Sections 3 and 4 (penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

India: Mud mound collapses in Ghatampur Tehsil, seven rescued

Kanpur: As many as seven people were rescued after a mud mound collapsed in Maunkhat village in Ghatampur Tehsil of Kanpur district on Wednesday.

Out of seven victims, two were seriously injured, while three were referred to Kanpur for further treatment.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Arun K Shrivastava said, "Villagers were digging the soil from the mound to paint their houses, put soil on the walls and for Diwali lamps.

The mound collapsed due to excessive digging and seven people, including six women were victims.

India: Ajit Kumar Sinha brought as new SP of Kanpur Outer

Kanpur: The state government has appointed Ajit Kumar Sinha as the new SP of Kanpur Outer.

Kanpur Outer, a rural area of Kanpur district, was separated as a new police jurisdiction after the implementation of police commissionerate in Kanpur Nagar district.

While Ashtabhuja Prasad Singh, the SP of Kanpur Outer, was transferred as SP of DGP (director general of police) headquarters in Lucknow.

Further, Ram Sewak Gautam was made the deputy commissioner of police at Kanpur police commissionerate.

India: War rooms to fight with air pollution in Kanpur & other districts

Kanpur: UP Govt has decided to set up war rooms to fight with air pollution menace in Kanpur and other cities.

The new infrastructure will be managed by the Road Dust Management. It will keep a check on various sources of pollution.

According to the reports, similar war rooms will also be set up in NCR districts to improve the overall air quality in UP.

The onset of winter only spells more trouble for the cities. The mercury dip along with high moisture content, the rise of smog and emission of greenhouse gases are factors that worsen the air quality.

India: Dalit woman raped in UP's Bhadohi

Bhadohi (UP), Oct 26 (PTI) A teenage boy accused of raping a 21-year-old woman after beating her in a Bhadohi district village has been arrested, police said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Monday evening when the woman had gone out to relieve herself, Durgaganj police station's SHO Ram Darash Ram said.

The youth first beat up the Dalit woman and then raped her, the SHO said, adding the accused left after threatening that he would kill all her family members if she disclosed the incident to them.

India: People told to not to go near stairs of ghats in Kanpur

Kanpur: The water level at ghats has gone up due to rains in Uttarakhand. We are informing people not to go near the stairs of ghats, said Arpita Singh, Ghat Supervisor.

Amid torrential rains, the state of Uttarakhand has witnessed flooded roads, landslides, and overflowing rivers. This natural fury leaves people stranded on various places.
