India: SC puts colonial era sedition law on hold until Govt review completes

New Delhi, 12 May 2022 (UMMN): A special bench of Supreme Court has stayed all pending criminal trials and court proceedings under Section 124A (sedition) cases and directed the Centre and states not to register any fresh FIRs on sedition charges until the government revisits the colonial-era law.

According to Arab48, Israeli journalist Barak Ravid said that Israeli media officials met half an hour after Abu Akleh's targeting and decided to try to change international headlines.

Israel narrative about killing Shireen Abu Akleh 'untrue': B'Tselem

12 May 2022; MEMO: The Israeli army's narrative about the killing of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh is "untrue", the Israeli Information Centre for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories (B'Tselem) said yesterday.

"This morning, B'Tselem's field researcher in Jenin documented the exact locations in which the Palestinian gunman depicted in a video distributed by the Israeli army, fired, as well as the exact location in which Journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was killed," B'Tselem tweeted.

Israel moves Palestinian hunger striker to hospital as health critical

11 May 2022; MEMO: Palestinian administrative detainee in Israel, Khalil Awawdeh, was moved to hospital as his health is now critical after his 68-day hunger strike, his lawyer Ahlam Haddad said.

Forty-year-old Awawdeh suffers from continuous headaches, pain in the joints, fatigue, irregular heartbeats, difficulty breathing, is vomiting blood and lossing weight, Haddad said.

He was previously transferred to hospital but then returned to Ramle Prison clinic despite his health condition.

Israel demolishes Palestinian home in occupied East Jerusalem, displaces 35 residents

11 May 2022; MEMO: Israeli occupation forces yesterday demolished the Al-Rajabi family house in occupied East Jerusalem's Silwan neighbourhood, displacing 35 members of the family, witnesses said.

Fares Al-Rajabi, 34, said that 35 residents, most of them children, had been left with no shelter, adding that the staff of the Israeli municipality arrived at 9am, broke the doors, evicted the residents and demolished the three storey house.

UK serves refugees with official notice they are 'under consideration' for deportation to Rwanda

11 May 2022; MEMO: British Home Secretary Priti Patel has served the first group of refugees crossing the English Channel with an official notice that they are "under consideration" for relocation to Rwanda to claim asylum.

The Home Office has said that any migrants arriving in Britain after Monday will be prioritised for the scheme.

Israel shoots dead Al Jazeera journalist during invasion of Jenin

11 May 2022; MEMO: Israeli occupation forces shot dead Al Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh this morning during an invasion of the northern occupied West Bank city of Jenin.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health said Abu Akleh was shot by a live bullet in the head and rushed to hospital where she was declared dead.

Another reporter, Ali Al-Samudi, was also shot by a live bullet in the back, the ministry said. He was reported to be in a stable condition.

India: Tribals lynched in MP, bandh called

Seoni, May 9 (PTI) A bandh called on Monday in Seoni city in Madhya Pradesh to protest against the killing of two tribals over alleged cow slaughter evoked a mixed response, with authorities saying the day passed off peacefully, while some videos circulating on social media showed minor stray incidents.

While many shops were closed, fuel pumps remained open during the shutdown call given by the Moolniwasi Adivasi Sangharsh Samiti and which was backed by various farmers' unions, officials said.

Israel 'tortures Palestinian children in detention'

10 May 2022; MEMO: Israel verbally and physically tortures Palestinian children in detention and during their interrogation, Arab48.com reported on Monday. According to the lawyer of the PLO Prisoners' and Freed Prisoners' Commission, Heba Aghbariyeh, most of the children in question were subjected to such torture.
