Shared values between India-US are discrimination, bigotry, hostility towards refugees: Amnesty

New Delhi, Feb 24 (PTI) The shared values between India and the US are "discrimination, bigotry, and hostility towards refugees and asylum seekers", Amnesty International USA said in a joint statement with Amnesty International India ahead of US President Donald Trump's visit to India on Monday.

Trump, accompanied by his wife Melania, daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner as well as senior officials of his administration, landed in Ahmedabad on the first leg of his two-day visit to India.

India: SP, Congress members stage walkout from UP Assembly

Lucknow, Feb 24 (PTI) Samajwadi Party and Congress members staged a walkout from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Monday over the issue of baton charge on women protestors in Aligarh.

Soon after the House met at 11 am, Leader of Opposition Ram Govind Chowdhury of the Samajwadi Party raised the issue and alleged that women were lathi-charged and tear gas shells were fired during anti-CAA protests in Aligarh on Sunday.

Pope disapproves of Trump's Mideast 'peace' plan

23 Feb 2020; MEMO: Pope Francis on Sunday warned against “inequitable solutions” to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, saying they would only be a prelude to new crises, in an apparent reference to US President Donald Trump’s Middle East peace proposal, reports Reuters.

Francis made his comments in the southern Italian port city of Bari, where he travelled to conclude a meeting of bishops from all countries in the Mediterranean basin.

India: Traffic affected in Khureji Khas due to anti-CAA protest

New Delhi, Feb 23 (PTI) Traffic movement was affected in northeast Delhi's Khureji Khas area on Monday after a large group, comprising mostly women, gathered there to protest against the CAA, police said.

They said the protesters, approximately less than 100 in number, assembled on a stretch leading to the main road of Khureji Khas for a sit-in demanding roll back of the amended anti-citizenship law.

Also amongst the dead are a Bosnian, a Bulgarian and a Romanian citizen.

India: Maha village passes resolution against CAA, NRC

Aurangabad, Feb 22 (PTI) Patrud village in Beed district of Maharashtra has passed a resolution against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The gram panchayat of Patrud in Majalgaon tehsil passed the resolution at its meeting held on February 2.

The copy of the resolution has gone viral on social media.

Germany: Vigils held for Hanau victims of Whitist terrorist

BERLIN, Feb 21 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Thousands of people took part in vigils across Germany after a gunman with apparent far-right beliefs killed nine people at a shisha bar and a cafe in the city of Hanau.

Chancellor Angela Merkel condemned the “poison” of racism, as anger mixed with grief over the latest and deadliest attack linked to Germany’s extreme right in recent months.

The suspect, 43-year-old German Tobias R., was found dead at his home after the rampage along with his 72-year-old mother in what appeared to be a murder-suicide.

Morocco: People Rally To Support Palestinians Against U.S. Peace Plan In Rabat

RABAT, Feb 22 (NNN-MAP) – Thousands of demonstrators flooded the streets of Morocco and Tunisia, to protest against a new US Middle East peace plan which the Palestinians say favours Israel.

Carrying Palestinian flags, demonstrators, including local politicians and trade unionists, marched in Rabat chanting, “Long live Palestine.”

They called for a boycott of American products, denounced the United States as “enemies of peace” and chanted, “Palestine is not for sale.”
