Palestinians withdraw request for Security Council vote on US Mideast plan

UNITED NATIONS, Feb 11 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The Palestinians have abandoned their request for a vote at the UN Security Council Tuesday on rejecting the US Mideast peace plan, over a lack of international support, diplomats said Monday.

Introduced by Indonesia and Tunisia, the resolution risked not having nine out of 15 votes in its favor, the minimum required for adoption provided there is no veto by a permanent member, the diplomats said.

India: Heavy police deployment at Mandi House in view of anti-CAA protest call

New Delhi, Feb 10 (PTI) There was a heavy police deployment in New Delhi's Mandi House area on Monday morning in view of a protest call against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

According to a senior police official, they had refused permission for the protest march as the budget session of Parliament was going on.

India: Omar Abdullah's sister moves SC challenging his detention under PSA

New Delhi, Feb 10 (PTI) Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah's sister on Monday moved the Supreme Court to challenge his detention under the Public Safety Act.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the petitioner, mentioned the matter for urgent listing before a bench headed by Justice N V Ramana.

Sibal told the bench that they have filed a habeas corpus petition challenging the detention of Abdullah under the PSA and the matter should be heard this week.

The bench agreed for urgent listing of the matter.

India: UP police crushing anti-CAA protest in Aligarh

India: Fresh batch of foreign envoys to visit JK this week

Srinagar, Feb 10 (PTI) A fresh batch of foreign envoys will visit Jammu and Kashmir this week to get first-hand information about the ground situation after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, officials said on Monday.

The first batch of envoys, including the US Ambassador to India, had visited Jammu and Kashmir last month.

India: March to Jantar Mantar against CAA, NRC

New Delhi, Feb 10 (PTI) Hundreds of protesters, including students and civil society members, poured onto the streets in central Delhi on Monday protesting against the amended citizenship law and the National Register of Citizens.

The protesters, carrying placards and banners of all sizes and colours, converged at Mandi House around 11 am and started marching towards Jantar Mantar where they reached around 12.30 pm via Barakhamba Road and Tolstoy Road.

Thousands Of Moroccans March, To Support Palestinians Against U.S. 'Peace' Plan

RABAT, Feb 10 (NNN-MAP) – Thousands of Moroccans, on Sunday, marched in the capital Rabat, to express their solidarity with the Palestinian people and their rejection of the recently released U.S. peace plan for the Middle East.

Protesters chanted, while carrying pro-Palestinian placards, with words such as: “No Trump’s Deal of the Century,” “Full solidarity with the Palestinian people,” “Free Palestine.”

Carrying Palestinian flags and big placards, the protesters marched for hours.

African Union, Arab League Reject Trump’s Controversial Mideast 'Peace' Plan

ADDIS ABABA, Feb 10 (NNN-ENA) – The African Union (AU) and the Arab League (AL), voiced their rejection of the newly unveiled U.S. peace plan that has sparked growing tensions between Palestine and Israel.

African Union Commission Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat said, the U.S. plan was devised without consulting Palestinians and violates existing AU and UN resolutions on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Turkey won’t allow ‘Deal of Century’ to threaten peace

09 Feb 2020; MEMO: Turkey will never allow the peace in the region to be disrupted by the US’ so-called “Deal of Century” Mideast peace plan, said Turkey’s president today, reported by Anadolu Agency. 

Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s remarks came in a statement he sent to the current 3rd Conference of the Inter-parliamentary Jerusalem Platform in Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur.

Israel plans West Bank annex after ‘deal of century’

09 Feb 2020; MEMO: Israel’s prime minister said his government has begun editing West Bank maps to include areas his country plans to annex, reports Anadolu Agency.  

The move comes after US President Donald Trump released a “deal” to end the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Benjamin Netanyahu said lands that will be part of Israel are at the mapping stage and sovereignty will be applied to all land covered by the map, according to daily Yedioth Ahronoth.
