India: Goa Archbishop urges govt to revoke CAA

Panaji, Feb 9 (PTI) Archbishop of Goa and Daman, Rev Filipe Neri Ferrao, has urged the central government to "immediately and unconditionally revoke the Citizenship Amendment Act" and stop quashing the "right to dissent".

He also appealed to the government not to implement the proposed countrywide National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR).

U.S. 'Peace' Plan Includes 300 Violations Of International Law

RAMALLAH, Palestine, Feb 9 (NNN-WAFA) – A senior Palestinian official stated that, the U.S. peace plan, also known as the “Deal of the Century,” includes 300 violations of international law.

Ahmad Majdalani, a member of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) Executive Committee, said that, President Mahmoud Abbas will present the violations next week, before the United Nations Security Council.

Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Rejects U.S. Mideast Peace Plan

AMMAN, Feb 9 (NNN-PETRA) – The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (APU), voiced its rejection of the U.S. Middle East peace plan, announced by U.S. President, Donald Trump.

The remarks were made during the 30th emergency session of the APU, which convened representatives of 20 Arab countries in Amman, capital of Jordan.

At the meeting, Jordan’s Lower House Speaker, Atef Tarawneh, said, the Palestinian issue is facing its most difficult conditions, especially as the Israeli occupation is protected by the biased U.S. government.

Syria: 90,000 civilians flee Idlib over last 4 days

08 Feb 2020; MEMO: Around 90,000 more civilians have left their homes in Idlib de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria over the last four days due to attacks by regime forces and their allies, Anadolu reports.

The attacks by Bashar al-Assad regime, Russia and Iran-backed terrorist groups in residential areas of Aleppo and Idlib continue to displace thousands of Syrians.

India: Woman set ablaze by in-laws over dowry, dies

Kendrapara (Odisha), Feb 7 (PTI) A 21-year-old woman, who was battling for life for nearly a week after being set ablaze by her in-laws in Odisha's Kendrapara district over dowry, succumbed to the burn injuries, police said on Friday.

Rashmita Sahu, who sustained more than 60 per cent burns, died on Thursday night at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, they said.

More than 1,000 immigrants rescued by Libyan Coast Guard this year: UNHCR

TRIPOLI, Feb 8 (NNN-Xinhua) — The United Nations Higher Commission of Refugees (UNHCR) said that more than 1,000 illegal immigrants have been rescued by the Libyan Coast Guard so far this year.

As of Feb. 6, some 1,040 refugees and migrants have been registered as rescued or intercepted at sea by the Libyan Coast Guard and have disembarked in Libya, an increase of 121 percent compared to the same period in 2019, the UNHCR said.

Israeli Jets Used Civilian Plane As Shield During Attacks On Damascus

Trump’s Mideast 'Peace' Plan Sparks Growing Israeli-Palestinian Tension

RAMALLAH/GAZA, Palestine, Feb 8 (NNN-WAFA) – U.S. President, Donald Trump’s Middle East peace plan sparked a growing tension between Israelis and Palestinians in the past few days.

Palestinian political factions, on Friday, called on Palestinians to hold rallies and demonstrations all over the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, to protest against the peace plan, known as the ‘Deal of the Century.’

Meanwhile, Israeli army deployed more forces in the West Bank, after four Palestinians were killed and 15 Israeli soldiers injured, in a new wave of clashes there.

India: SC to hear pleas against protest at Shaheen Bagh after Delhi polls

New Delhi, Feb 7 (PTI) The Supreme Court said it would hear the pleas against anti-CAA protests at Shaheen Bagh next week as it did not want to "influence" the Delhi assembly elections by hearing the matter on Friday.

Polls in the national capital will be held on Saturday and the matter will now be heard on Monday.
