UN Totally Committed To Two-State Solution To Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: Guterres

UNITED NATIONS, Feb 5 (NNN-XINHUA) – UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, said, the UN is totally committed to the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“We are totally committed to the two-state solution. And we are totally committed to supporting Israelis and Palestinians, to come to a peace process with the two-state solution, based on international law, based on Security Council and General Assembly resolutions and based on the borders of 1967,” the UN chief said.

Saudi Arabia rejects handing over Khashoggi’s investigation to Turkey

04 Feb 2020; MEMO: Saudi Arabia yesterday refused a recent request by Turkey to obtain the investigation file conducted by the Riyadh Criminal Court on the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Turkey’s Yeni Şafak quoted local legal sources as saying that that the public prosecutor in the country’s city of Istanbul had submitted an official request to the Saudi authorities through Ankara’s justice, seeking details about the trial of those convicted in the murder.

USA: Seattle City Council passes resolution against Indian CAA, NRC

Washington, Feb 4 (PTI) The Seattle City Council, one of the most powerful city councils in the US, on Monday unanimously passed a resolution condemning India's recently-enacted Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The new citizenship law passed by Parliament in December 2019 offers citizenship to non-Muslim persecuted religious minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

India: Mamata slams Adityanath for his 'goli vs boli' remark

Kolkata, Feb 3 (PTI) Slamming her Uttar Pradesh counterpart Yogi Adityanath for his recent "goli vs boli" remark, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said India was facing a "dangerous situation" as persons holding constitutional positions were busy spreading hate.

She also claimed that the BJP indulged in communal politics, as and when elections were around.

India: MU Proctor resigns from post

Aligarh (UP), Feb 4 (PTI) Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Proctor Prof Afifullah Khan on Tuesday resigned from his post, though he did not specify any reasons for the decision.

He stepped down days after the university's Students Coordination Committee demanded resignation of top university officials, including the Proctor, "on moral grounds" in the wake of the campus violence on December 15.

India: Probe into sedition case against school for insulting Modi in drama

Bidar(Karnataka), Feb 4 (PTI) The police has intensified investigation into the 'sedition case' against the management and staff of a school here, where children had allegedly insulted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others, in the context of CAA, in a drama they staged on January 21.

As part of the probe, the police visited Shaheen school on Tuesday -- this time in plain clothes, after their questioning of children in uniform on January 28 drew criticism from some quarters, a school official said.

Sudan Government Says It Wasn’t Notified Of Leader’s Meeting With Netanyahu

KHARTOUM, Feb 4 (NNN-SUNA) – Sudan’s transitional government said, it was not informed of a meeting between the African country’s leader and Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyanu, in which the two leaders agreed to normalise relations.

Government spokesman, Faisal Mohamed Salih said, the cabinet was waiting for Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to return from Uganda, where he met Netanyahu.

“We received the news about the meeting through the media,” Salih said in a statement.

UN Security Council To Hear Briefing From Kushner On Controversial Mideast 'Peace Plan'

UNITED NATIONS, Feb 4 (NNN-XINHUA) – The Security Council will hear a briefing behind closed doors from Jared Kushner, U.S. President Donald Trump’s senior adviser, on the U.S.-proposed Middle East 'peace plan', on Thursday, the council president said.

The closed-door meeting will be held between noon and 1.00 p.m. EST (1700 and 1800 GMT), he told reporters.

The Security Council will also hold a meeting with Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, on Feb 11.
