USA: Democrats challenge Trump’s travel ban on anniversary

28 Jan 2019; MEMO: Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, and other prominent Democrats, on Monday announced plans to stop President Donald Trump’s three-year-old ban on travelers from some mostly-Muslim countries, Anadolu Agency reports.

Pelosi issued a statement on her website, while Senator Chris Coons and Representative Ilhan Omar attended a press conference on Capitol Hill to show support for a new piece of legislation called the No Ban Act.

India: Anti-CAA activist Sharjeel Imam arrested in Bihar

Jehanabad, Jan 28 (PTI) Anti-CAA activist Sharjeel Imam, who was on the run after sedition charges were slapped against him for allegedly making inflammatory statements, was arrested from Bihar's Jehanabad district on Tuesday, state's police chief Gupteshwar Pandey said.

The JNU scholar was wanted by police of several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Delhi.

Iranian FM Says U.S. Mideast Peace Plan “Delusional”

TEHRAN, Iran, Jan 28 (NNN-TASNIM) – Iran’s Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, on Monday, said that, the U.S. President, Donald Trump’s so-called “Deal of the Century” for the Middle East is “delusional.”

“Instead of a delusional ‘Deal of the Century’ – which will be D.O.A.- self-described ‘champions of democracy’ would do better to accept Iran’s democratic solution,” Zarif tweeted.

On Monday, Trump said that, he will reveal his Middle East peace plan on Tuesday (today).

Israel police ban Al-Aqsa Mosque imam for 4 months

27 Jan 2020; MEMO: Israeli occupation police interrogated Sheikh Ekrima Sabri, Imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque, for at least four hours, Anadolu reported yesterday.

Prior to the interrogation, Sheikh Sabri said: “I have been praying at Al-Aqsa Mosque for 70 years and have been giving sermons for 47 years. It is not acceptable that I am prevented from entering it.”

Sheikh Sabri is the head of the Islamic Supreme Commission (NGO) in Jerusalem.

India: West Bengal govt tables anti-CAA resolution in Assembly

Kolkata, Jan 27 (PTI) The West Bengal government on Monday tabled a resolution against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in the Assembly.

The resolution appeals to the Union government to repeal the amended citizenship law and revoke plans to implement NRC and update NPR.

State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee introduced the resolution in the House around 2 pm.

Hamas Chief Rejects U.S. Mideast “Deal of The Century”

GAZA, Palestine, Jan 27 (NNN-WAFA) – Islamic Hamas movement chief, Ismail Haniyeh, declared his rejection to the U.S. Middle East peace plan, also known as the “Deal of The Century,” according to a statement.

“We are ready to hold urgent meeting with the brothers in Fatah party, and all factions in Cairo, in order to draw our own way and unite in the battle of defending our Jerusalem and our sacred places,” he added.

Palestinian factions have slammed the U.S. Middle East peace plan, ahead of a possible announcement by the U.S. President, Donald Trump.

Five resolutions in European Parliament slam CAA and Indian Gov actions in Kashmir

Brussels; 27 January 2020 (UMM): Six contemptuous resolutions on both Jammu and Kashmir and the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) have been filed by an overwhelming majority of members in the European Parliament, which will be taken up for discussion and voting this week.

The outcome of these resolutions could have a deep impact on ties between India and the European Union.

India: GFP to seek debate on Citizenship Act in Goa Assembly

Panaji, Jan 25 (PTI) NDA ally Goa Forward Party (GFP) on Saturday said it would be moving a motion seeking a debate on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) during the coming session of the Goa Legislative Assembly.

The budget session of the Assembly will be held from February 3 to 7.

GFP chief Vijai Sardesai said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday appealed opponents of the CAA to have an open debate with him.
