Pompeo condemns China's Xinjiang crackdown during Central Asia tour

Nur-Sultan (Kazakhstan), Feb 2 (AFP/PTI) US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called on countries to offer asylum to ethnic minorities fleeing China's troubled Xinjiang region during a visit Sunday to oil-rich Kazakhstan -- a country that borders the region.

"We ask simply for them to provide safe refuge and asylum for those seeking to flee China," Pompeo said at a press appearance with Kazakh foreign minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi.

Palestinian President To Cut Relations With Israel, U.S. Over Trump’s 'Peace Deal'

CAIRO, Feb 2 (NNN-MENA) – Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, said here that, his authority informed the Israeli and U.S. sides that it will “cut all relations” with them, over the recently released U.S. peace plan.

“We told the Israelis that we will not have any relations with them or with the United States, including security relations,” Abbas told an emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers, at the Arab League (AL) headquarters in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

India: Kafeel Khan remanded to judicial custody, transferred to Mathura jail

Aligarh (UP), Feb 1 (PTI) Child specialist Kafeel Khan who was accused of making an inflammatory speech at AMU was remanded to judicial custody and later transferred to Mathura jail, officials said on Saturday.

Circle Officer (Civil Lines) Anil Samania said Khan was brought here late Friday evening and was produced before the remand magistrate who remanded him to judicial custody.

India: Sharjeel Imam's mobile phone, laptop seized: Police

New Delhi, Jan 30 (PTI) Activist Sharjeel Imam's mobile phone and laptop along with some anti-CAA posters have been seized from his house in Bihar's Jehanabad and rented flat in Vasant Kunj, police said on Friday.

Imam was arrested by the Delhi Police's Crime Branch from Jehanabad in a sedition case and he is being questioned by police for his alleged inflammatory speeches in Aligarh and at the Jamia Millia Islamia University here.

Erdogan Says Turkey May Consider Using Military Force In Idlib

ISTANBUL, Feb 1 (NNN-ANADOLU) – Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said, Turkey might consider launching a military operation, if the bombardments in Syria’s province of Idlib continue.

“We sincerely want stability in Syria and will not hesitate to do whatever it takes, including using military force,” Erdogan said in Ankara.

The Syrian government forces, backed by Russia, have been carrying out airstrikes in Idlib, the last stronghold of rebels in Syria, forcing civilians to leave their homes.

Hamas Deputy Chief Calls On Palestinian Authority To Withdraw Recognition Of Israel

GAZA, Feb 1 (NNN-WAFA) – A senior Hamas official, called on the Palestinian Authority, to withdraw its recognition of Israel, in response to the U.S. Middle East peace plan.

Palestinians “should upgrade the stage of all types of comprehensive resistance, to topple the U.S. deal,” Khalil al-Hayyah, deputy chief of Hamas, told worshippers at a mosque in Gaza city.

“Everyone should know that there are strong men in Palestine, who know how to defend their land with all their powers,” said al-Hayyah.

Palestinian President, Arab League Chief Discuss U.S. Mideast Peace Plan

CAIRO, Feb 1 (NNN-MENA) – Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas and Arab League (AL) Secretary General, Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, discussed the developments on the Palestinian issue, especially the recent U.S. peace plan.

During their meeting in Cairo, Aboul-Gheit affirmed that “the Arabs represent a supportive backup to the Palestinians,” according to a statement by AL.

Algeria affirms commitment to an independent Palestinian state

31 Jan 2020; MEMO: The Algerian foreign ministry has issued a statement affirming its commitment to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The ministry has reiterated Algeria’s “strong and permanent support for the Palestinian cause and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
