Gaza suffers $3m in damages following Israel strikes

16 Nov 2019; MEMO: Losses from Israel’s bombing of the Gaza Strip this year amount to $3 million, the Media Office in the enclave reported.

Some 500 housing units were either partial, severely or totally damaged, the office said, including eight houses and 12 housing units, with an estimated total value of $2 million, in addition to agricultural losses as a result of damage to land, farms, irrigation systems and fishing boats, worth more than one million shekels ($0.29 million).

India: Mehbooba Mufti shifted to govt house in Srinagar

Srinagar, Nov 15 (PTI) Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti was on Friday shifted to a government accommodation in the city from a tourist hut located at the foothills of Zaberwan range, officials said here.

The move was necessitated as the approaching winters and frequent power cuts made it difficult to stay in the hut which was converted into a jail after she was detained on August 5 this year.

India: CBI raids Amnesty International Bengaluru, Delhi offices

Bengaluru, Nov 15 (PTI) The CBI on Friday conducted raids at the Amnesty International Indias Bengaluru and Delhi offices.

Yes, raids were carried out. Details are awaited, a CBI officer told PTI.

An Amnesty International India executive, speaking on condition of anonymity, said about half-a-dozen CBI sleuths arrived at about 8.30 am at the Bengaluru office and carried out searches till 5 pm."

India: BHU Professor forced to quit after removing RSS flag from campus, charged

Mirzapur; 16 Nov 2019 (UMM): Prof Kiran Damle of Banaras Hindu University south campus in Mirzapur district has been booked by Police on complaint by RSS for removing the RSS flag from a ‘Shakha’ inside the university campus, and later forced to quit.

She has also been charged by the Uttar Pradesh police of "insulting religious beliefs", after the local RSS unit filed a complaint.

Turks protest Israel's attacks on Palestinians

ANKARA, 15 Nov 2019; AA: Scores of people and representatives of non-governmental organizations convened in front of Israel's embassy in the Turkish capital Ankara on Thursday to protest against Israel's attacks on Palestinians. 

Ahmet Sanver, chairman of the Ankara branch of the Anatolia Youth Association, delivered a speech on behalf of the protesters.

UN slammes Merkel, Macron for silence on Khashoggi

15 Nov 2019; MEMO: UN special rapporteur Agnes Callamard on Thursday sharply criticized German and French leaders for their “cowardly” silence on the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Anadolu Agency reports.

“This incident [Khashoggi’s murder] has demonstrated us the cowardice of the international community,” Callamard, the UN special rapporteur on extrajudicial executions, told internet portal Business Insider.

India: NRC erroneous as its responsibility was on 'incompetent' junior officer

Guwahati, Nov 14 (PTI) Veteran Congress leader Tarun Gogoi on Thursday alleged that final NRC is an "erroneous" document as the full responsibility of the exercise was entrusted upon state coordinator Prateek Hajela who was "a junior and incompetent officer".

The updated final NRC, which validates bonafide Indian citizens of Assam, has left out over 19 lakh applicants. It was published on August 31 under Hajela, who was appointed the NRC state coordinator by the Supreme Court.
