‘Help us take control of Middle East so that we can normalize with Israel’: Bin Salman

30 Sep 2019; MEMO: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman has vowed to recognise and normalise trade with Israel if the United States helps him “defeat Iran and take control of the Middle East.”

These statements, which were revealed by a documentary presented by PBS network, on Saturday, in the TV programme Frontline, were made by Bin Salman in a meeting with US President Donald Trump during his famous visit to Riyadh in May 2017.

Sisi’s son bans intelligence officers leaving Egypt to prevent internal revolt

1 Oct 2019; MEMO: Egypt’s General Intelligence Undersecretary Mahmoud Al-Sisi, who is the president’s son, has banned intelligence officials from leaving the country in anticipation of an internal revolt, sources have told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

An anonymous source told the website: “Al-Sisi’s son commissioned a committee of security leaders to start an extensive investigation on intelligence officers which will include a detailed report on their bank transactions and communications.”

Egypt detains over 83 women in September

1 Oct 2019; MEMO: Egypt has detained over 83 women in September alone, according to figures compiled by the rights group We Record.

The arrests are part of a widescale crackdown in Egypt in September as the government moves to curb protests which have swept across the country for two weeks in a row calling on President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to stand down.

Curbs in Kashmir: There has to be balance between personal liberty & national security, says SC

New Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI) There has to be a balance between personal liberty of an individual and national security, the Supreme Court said Tuesday while hearing the pleas that have raised issue of curbs in the Kashmir Valley after the abrogation of provision of Article 370.

The top court's remarks came after the Jammu and Kashmir administration said that 100 per cent landlines are working in the Valley and their is no restriction on the movement of people during the day time.

India: Shahjahanpur rape victim to move High Court for bail

Shahjahanpur (UP), Oct 1 (PTI) A day after a local court dismissed the bail application of the law student who had accused former Union minister Chinmayanand of rape, her father here said they would move the High Court against the order.

"The District Judge has rejected the bail of my daughter and now we will move a bail application in the High Court," her father told medipersons here.

India: NRC must for national security; will be implemented: Shah

Kolkata, Oct 1 (PTI) The NRC is "a must" for national security and will be implemented, Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared on Tuesday but made it clear that Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Buddhist refugees will be accorded Indian citizenship beforehand with the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

Addressing a BJP seminar on the National Register of Citizens, which has hitherto remained confined to Assam, the party president accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her party TMC of misleading the people on the issue.

India: Court rejects bail pleas of Chinmayanand, law student

Shahjahanpur (UP), Sep 30 (PTI) A district court here on Monday rejected the bail pleas of BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand and the law student who has accused him of rape.

The two were sent to 14-day-judicial custody after being arrested in cases that now run parallel.

The former Union minister was booked under section 376C, a charge short of rape, on the basis of a complaint filed by the 23-year-old woman who studied at a college run by his ashram.

Greece wants to return 10,000 migrants to Turkey by 2020

ATHENS, Oct 1 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The Greek government said it wants to send 10,000 migrants back to Turkey by the end of 2020, following an emergency cabinet meeting.

Athens would increase the rate from the “1,805 returned in the 4.5 years under the previous Syria government” of left-wing leader Alexis Tsipras, a cabinet statement said, a day after a deadly fire at a migrant camp on the Greek island of Lesbos.

Indian Supreme Court postpones hearing on Kashmir

Indian Supreme Court has postponed the hearing of petitions related to human rights and abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir till Tuesday. Hearing will not take place on Tuesday because the court does not has time due to daily hearings of Ayodhya case.

"We do not have the time to hear so many matters. We have Constitution bench case (Ayodhya dispute) to hear," said CJI Ranjan Gogoi.

India: SC refuses to further entertain plea for producing Farooq Abdullah

New Delhi, Sep 30 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Monday refused to further entertain Rajya Sabha MP Vaiko's plea seeking production of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah before it and said the MDMK leader can challenge the detention order under the Public Safety Act.

"He (Abdullah) is under detention under the Public Safety Act," a bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi told Vaiko's counsel.
