India: Shah Faesal steps down as JKPM president

Srinagar, Aug 10 (PTI) Shah Faesal, who resigned from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and floated the Jammu and Kashmir People's Movement (JKPM) last year, has resigned as its president, the party said on Monday.

Faesal had dropped a hint about stepping away from politics on Sunday as he edited his personal details on Twitter, removing the reference to his political affiliations.

India: Restrictions imposed in Kashmir Valley, markets shut

Srinagar, Aug 3 (PTI) Restrictions were imposed in the Kashmir valley on Monday, with officials saying that the curbs have been enforced as part of efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The restrictions come two days ahead of the first anniversary of the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status.

No movement of people, except essential services and medical emergencies, was being allowed, the officials said.

Military commanders of India and China hold fifth round of talks on border row

New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) Senior military commanders of India and China are holding a fresh round of talks on Sunday with an aim to ensure expeditious disengagement of troops from all the friction points along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh, military sources said.

It is the fifth round of corps commander-level talks in nearly two months with an aim to defuse the border tensions triggered by a violent clash between the two militaries in Pangong Tso area in eastern Ladakh on May 5.

Indian army soldier killed in firing by Pak along LoC

Jammu, Aug 1 (PTI) An Indian Army jawan was killed when Pakistan opened heavy fire on forward posts along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Saturday, a defence spokesperson said.

He said the Pakistan Army violated the ceasefire agreement by opening fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri sector.

India: Sajad Gani Lone released from year-long detention without charge

Srinagar, Jul 31 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference (JKPC) chairman Sajad Gani Lone was on Friday released from nearly a year-long detention, officials said.

Lone was released days ahead of the first anniversary of the Centre's move to revoke Article 370 of the Constitution in August last year, the officials said.

india: Separatists target Army vehicle in Pulwama, no casualties

Srinagar, July 30 (PTI) Militants on Thursday opened fire at an Army vehicle in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said

There was no loss of life in the attack.

The ultras opened fire on the vehicle of the Army at Drubgam Payeen in Pulwama and fled from the spot, a police official said.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search for the militants, he added.

India: L-G launches long-awaited Jammu ropeway project

Jammu, Jul 27 (PTI) The much-awaited Jammu ropeway project, aimed at boosting tourism in the winter capital of the Union territory, has been launched by Lieutenant Governor G C Murmu on Monday that has brought a smile on the faces of the people of Jammu.

Planned back in 1995, the project faced dozens of delays in its start, execution and date of completion but the people of Jammu feel are now happy that a prestigious project has seen the light of day after 25 years.

India: Anjuman-e-Islamia chief booked for sedition in Kashmir

Bhaderwah (Doda), Jul 25 (PTI) Police on Saturday booked the president of Anjuman-e-Islamia, Bhaderwah for making a "provocative and seditious" statement during Friday prayers, an officer said.

The FIR was registered against Pervaiz Ahmed Sheikh at the Bhaderwah Police Station for disobeying the orders of the district magistrate by organising Friday prayers, the officer said.
