India: Class 10 student jumps from school terrace, condition critical

Kanpur: A girl student of class 10 jumped from the school terrace allegedly after being reprimanded by her teacher at Kanpur Cantonment Board School on Wednesday.

The student was identified as Shivani who has been admitted to a hospital in critical condition.

The teacher Ghanshyam allegedly hurt the feelings of Shivani in front of the class and said, "Should I get a quilt-mattress for you in school".

Distressed by the ridicule, Shivani jumped from the terrace of the school.

By this technique shoe is made using jute sole and rubber. Stitching is done with cotton threads. It is completely eco-friendly.

Kanpur: An argument broke out between Municipal Commissioner Shivsharanappa GN and BJP leader Kapil Gupta here on Tuesday.

India: Man held for resorting to supari killing of woman in Kanpur

Kanpur: A married man was arrested for allegedly resorting to the supari killing of his lover, a resident of the Gujaini locality here. She insisted on marriage and sharing in the property.

It was reported that Sushila ran an affair with Prem, already married. When she insisted on marriage, the latter took it otherwise and hatched a conspiracy with his associates to kill her.

India: Kanpur will no longer elect woman mayor following new formula

Kanpur: The city's mayor seat will no longer be reserved for the woman candidate. This has been made clear with the fresh formula on reservations in the urban local bodies elections.

Now, the reservation will be about 35% of the 17 posts for women candidates.

The unreserved mayoral seats include Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Firozabad and Ghaziabad.

Six mayoral seats have been reserved for women. Three of these are for women of the general category and three for women of the reserved category.

India: Probe team formed to examine 13 complaints against MLA in Kanpur

Kanpur: Police have constituted a team under ASP to examine the 13 complaints filed against Samajwadi Party MLA Solanki from the Sisamau area here.

He is reportedly in jail for allegedly harassing and setting a woman's house on fire in a bid to allegedly capture her house located in the city's posh area.

As many as 13 complaints, including that criminal intimidation, money dispute, and land grabbing, were filed against the MLA.

India: Vegetable vendor loses legs as running train hits him in Kanpur

Kanpur: A vegetable vendor lost both his legs after being run over by a train here on Friday. He was assembling his belongings allegedly thrown on the tracks during an anti-encroachment drive. The incident happened in the Kalyanpur area.

An eyewitness claimed that the victim went to the tracks to pick up his belongings and his weighing scale, allegedly thrown by the men in khaki on railway tracks. He was run over by an oncoming train.

Locals claimed that the Indira Nagar police station in charge and head constable Rakesh Kumar chased the street vendors off GT Road.

India: Ban on private or public eye camps after 8 loose sights in Kanpur

Kanpur: The Chief Medical Officer of Kanpur has banned public and private hospitals from holding any eye check-up camps until further orders.

The decision comes days after eight Kanpur residents lost their sight following a cataract surgery at a private hospital here.

A notice communicating this decision has been issued to the hospitals in the district.

An advisory has also been issued asking people to remain careful in the context of medical procedures.

India: BSA orders probe into drilling incident at Kanpur school

Kanpur: The officials of the education department initiated a probe against a teacher for badly injuring a student.

This happened by piercing his forearm with a driller at the Sisamau area here.

The teacher had done this act as punishment to the Class 5 student. He was left writhing in excruciating pain.

The brutal punishment was meted out to Vivan, a student of Class 5, studying at Higher Primary School at Premnagar in Sisamau.

The punishment was given when he was unable to recite tables of 2.
