India: 1,000 foreigners in 6 detention centres in Assam, RS told

New Delhi, Nov 27; GANASHAKTI: Nearly 1,000 foreigners are lodged in six detention centres in Assam, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.

Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Nityanand Rai said from 2016 to October 13, 2019, as many as 28 detenues have died either in the detention centres or in hospitals where they were referred.

"As informed by the government of Assam, as on November 22, 2019, 988 foreigners were lodged in six detention centres in Assam," he said, replying to a written question.

Indian Govt non-committal on isuse of restoring Internet in J-K

New Delhi, Nov 27 (PTI) The government on Wednesday remained non-committal over the issue of restoring Internet facility in the Kashmir Valley.

When the House was discussing issue of broadband and Internet facility in rural areas of the country during Question Hour in Lok Sabha, National Conference MP Hasnain Masoodi said Internet has not been available in the Kashmir Valley for the last four months and asked when the facility will be restored.

Speaker Om Birla said the matter is not in the domain of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Iran urges fast reforms in UNSC structure, veto power

New York, Nov 26, IRNA- Iran called on the United Nations on Monday to respond to demands by its member states who ask for veto power. 

Iran’s Ambassador to the UN Majid Takht Ravanchi said that his country’s demands have not been met by the UN as it’s not democratic and transparent. 

He mentioned that the UN has been used by some of its member states and that it has been inactive in many cases. 

Takht Ravanchi noted that the UN Security Council has lost its credibility and needs to review its basis and rules.

The organisers of the initiative, who describe themselves as “a coalition of anti-racist associations and committees within the Palestine solidarity movement in Europe”, are hoping to pressure the EU into banning trade with settlements.

An estimated 5,000 Rohingya refugees in Melaka

MELAKA, Nov 26 (NNN-BERNAMA) — It is estimated that about 5,000 Rohingya refugees are in Melaka, to date, the Melaka State Assembly was told today.

However, Chief Minister, Adly Zahari said that according to the Malaysian Rohingya Council (MRM) not all were registered with the United Nations High Comission for Refugees (UNHCR).

‘’MRM moves from house to house to collect data on the refugees and represents the Rohingya community to liaise with the government and international agencies,’’ he told the State Assembly in Seri Melaka today.

Almost Half Of Israeli Women Suffer Tech Violence By Spouses: Survey

JERUSALEM, Nov 26 (NNN-MA’AN) – Nearly half of Israeli women suffered technological violence by their spouses, according to a survey published by Israel’s leading organisation for education and social services.

The survey, published by the Women’s International Zionist Organisation (WIZO), ahead of the annual International Day of the Elimination of Violence Against Women, shows that, 48 percent of women in Israel, aged 20 to 60, have experienced technological violence by their spouses, at least once.

Israel Deports Human Rights Watch Director

JERUSALEM, Nov 26 (NNN-ANADOLU) – Despite many attempts to challenge the court’s decision, Israel is set to expel the Jerusalem-based director of Human Rights Watch (HRW).

On Nov 5, Israel’s Supreme Court rejected an appeal by Omar Shakir, against a decision to deport him and gave him 20 days to leave the country.

Israeli authorities accuse Shakir of supporting the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which Israel has criminalised.

Saudi detains nine academics, writers in new crackdown
