Palestinian parliament calls for Saudi to release Palestinian prisoners

17 Oct 2019; MEMO: First Deputy Speaker of the Palestinian Parliament Ahmad Bahar yesterday called on Saudi King Salman Bin Abdulaziz to release Palestinian prisoners held in the kingdom, Felesteen reported.

During a meeting with the families of the prisoners, Bahar said that the Palestinian prisoners in Saudi jails have not violated the country’s rules.

Trump’s ME peace plan ‘pretty vague’: Putin

16 Oct 2019; MEMO: Russian President Vladimir Putin has described US President Donald Trump’s Middle East peace plan the “deal of the century” as “pretty vague”, news agencies reported.

Before leaving to the Saudi capital Riyadh, Putin said Russia “will support any deal that will bring peace,” stressing that any deal must first be understood.

America “has been pretty vague about the details of the deal,” he added.

India: Daily proceedings in Ayodhya case to end on Wednesday: SC

New Delhi, Oct 16 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Wednesday made it clear that it will conclude today the day-to-day hearing in the politically sensitive Ram Janmbhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case at Ayodhya, saying "enough is enough".

A 5-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said that it is hearing the Ayodhya land dispute case for the last 39 days and no more time beyond today will be granted to parties to conclude the hearing in the case.

India: Journalist hacked to death in AP district

Amaravati, Oct 15 (PTI) Unidentified assailants hacked to death the local reporter of a Telugu daily in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday night, police said.

K Satyanarayana, 45, reporter of Andhra Jyothy, died on the spot while the assailants fled after committing the crime, they said.

The incident occurred at S Annavaram village.

Egypt: Israa Abdelfattah strangled in custody

15 Oct 2019; MEMO: Egyptian activist Israa Abdelfattah, who was kidnapped from a street in Cairo over the weekend, has detailed how she was tortured and beaten in custody.

On Saturday Israa was abducted by plainclothes police officers from her car and taken away in a van to an undisclosed place of detention and banned from contacting family or lawyers.

Israel abducts Jerusalem governor and Fatah official in Jerusalem

15 Oct 2019; MEMO: In a dawn raid yesterday, Israeli soldiers abducted the Governor of Jerusalem, Adnan Ghaith, and Fatah Secretary-General for the city, Shadi Mutwar, from their homes.

“The governor was arrested in a raid on his home in the Jerusalem neighbourhood of Silwan,” the Palestinian Prisoners Society said in a statement.

Media sources said the soldiers assaulted Mutwar in front of his family before ransacking his home and violently searched Ghaith’s residence.

India: Newborn girl, who was buried alive in UP, critical

Bareilly (UP), Oct 15 (PTI) A newborn girl, who was admitted to the district hospital after she was found buried alive, is in a critical condition, doctors said on Tuesday.

The police have registered a case against unidentified persons but are still trying to trace her parents, Senior Superintendent of Police Shailesh Pandey said.

The infant was rescued last Thursday by a trader who had gone to the cremation ground to bury his daughter, who died minutes after being born prematurely.

India: Two-year-old girl raped by man in UP

On Monday evening, when toddler was playing outside her house, Yadaram Sahu lured her, saying he would buy eatables for her, Senior Superintendent of Police Shailendra Pandey said in a village here

When the family came to know that the accused had taken the girl with him, they reached his house where found the toddler bleeding, the SSP said
