India: Farmers stay put at UP Gate, 'excess force' removed

Ghaziabad, Jan 29 (PTI) Hundreds of Bharatiya Kisan Union members stayed put on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway early on Friday, notwithstanding the Ghaziabad administration's ultimatum to vacate the UP Gate protest site.

A confrontation was building up at the UP Gate in Ghazipur even as frequent power cuts were witnessed in the evening at the protest site, where BKU members, led by Rakesh Tikait, are staying put since November 28.

India: Man gets seven years in jail for killing wife for dowry

Pratapgarh (UP), Jan 28 (PTI) A local court has sentenced a man and his parents to seven-year imprisonment for killing his wife for dowry in 2014.

Additional Sessions Judge Santosh Kumar Tiwari awarded the sentence on Wednesday to Sanjay Shukla, his father Radhey Shyam, mother Gayatri Devi and three others identified as Vijay Shukla, Ajay and Rajesh.

Sadhna was killed on March 31, 2014 following which a dowry death case was registered by her father.

India: BJP robs common to pay capitalists: Lallu

Raebareli, Jan 27 (PTI) UP Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu on Wednesday accused the BJP of duping common men to benefit capitalists.

Lallu made the allegation while addressing a gathering here in Harchandpur block as a part of the 'Sangathan Srijan Abhiyaan', a campaign aimed at strengthening the party.

India: SP workers hold tractor parade in Bundelkhand

Banda (UP), Jan 26 (PTI) Samajwadi Party workers on Tuesday took part in a tractor parade to protest against the Centre's three farm laws in different districts of Bundelkhand.

A police officer posted in Banda said the tractor rally held by SP workers was stopped near Mandi Samiti.

In Turra village, some farmers tried to take out the rally on the highway, but they were not allowed, police said.

India: Scant space gives a parking problem to full-size cars

Kanpur: Parking is a big problem for the car drivers and if the four-wheeler happens to be large it requires considerable space.

A stout person who had taken a parking space for parking his newly bought Baleno faced difficulty in parking.

Being defeated in his attempt to park the glossy vehicle on the available space, he came to the owner for giving him another parking area so that he could park his vehicle easily in the way he wanted.

India: Mother-son duo gets life term in dowry death case in UP

Bhadohi (UP), Jan 26 (PTI) A local court awarded life sentence to a mother-son duo in a dowry death case.

Additional Sessions Judge Anil Kumar on Monday awarded life imprisonment to Ajit and his mother Chandrawati, and also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 each on them.

An FIR was lodged at Bhadohi Kotwali on a complaint by Dharmraj of Handia in Allahabad, against six people on October 12, 2018, for setting afire his daughter Poonam, prosecution counsel Dinesh Pandey said.

Poonam had died during treatment a week later, he said.

India: Children rue at lack of excitement on Republic Day

India: 50-year-old widow raped in UP's Mahoba

Mahoba (UP), Jan 23 (PTI) A 50-year-old widow was allegedly raped and made pregnant by a man from her village in the City Kotwali police station area in this Uttar Pradesh district, police said on Saturday.

The woman, who got an FIR lodged on Friday, has alleged that the accused, Akhilesh Ahirwar, barged into her house on the night of December 7 last year and raped her, City Kotwali Station House Officer (SHO) Shashi Kumar Pandey said.
