India: Vishva Hindu Parishad activists burn effigies of Tandav' director

Shahjahanpur (UP), Jan 19 (PTI) Activists of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Tuesday burnt effigies of Tandav webseries director and demanded that the National Security Act be invoked against him for allegedly depicting Hindu gods in an objectionable manner.

Amazon Prime Video's starry political saga Tandav landed in a controversy for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Hindu community.

India: 3.75 lakh youth got jobs in UP since 2017 claims the CM

Lucknow, Jan 19 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said 3.75 lakh youths were given jobs in the state in a transparent manner according to their merit since he took over in 2017.

"In the past three years and 10 months, jobs were given to over 3.75 lakh youths in the state. The recruitment was done in a transparent manner on their merit. There has not been any doubts and questions on the recruitment process adopted in UP," the CM said.

India: 12-year-old girl raped and killed in UP's Maharajganj

Gorakhpur (UP), Jan 19 (PTI) A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed in Purenderpur area of Mahrajganj district, police said on Tuesday.

The semi-naked body of the girl was found in a pool of blood in a forest area around 500 meters away from her home on Tuesday morning, they said.

After getting information, police officials including Maharajganj Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gupta, rushed to the spot and sent the body for postmortem.

It is suspected to be a case of gang-rape and murder, said police officials.

India: Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide in UP

Fatehpur (UP),Jan 19 (PTI) A 35-year-old debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide in Khatauli village here, police said on Tuesday.

Kuldeep Tiwari allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his house on Monday, SHO, Lalauli, Sandeep Tiwari, said.

According to the farmer's family, Kuldeep had taken a loan of Rs. 70,000 from a bank and had also bought fertilizer by taking money on loan on Sunday, the SHO said.

India: Body of newborn girl found on roadside in UP

Shahjahanpur (UP), Jan 19 (PTI) The body of a newborn was found on the roadside in Puvayan township here, police said on Tuesday.

Villagers saw the body of a girl child near Nakkhasa village on the Shahjahanpur-Palia road on Monday with stray dogs scratching it, and informed the police, SP (Rural) Sanjeev Bajpai said.

It appeared that the body was thrown on the roadside just after the birth, he said, adding that it has been sent for post-mortem examination.

The matter is being investigated, the SP added.

India: NGT to take cognizance of ammonia gas leak incident at IFFCO plant in UP

New Delhi, Jan 17 (PTI) The National Green Tribunal is scheduled to take cognizance of the ammonia gas leak incident at IFFCO plant at Phulpur near Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh on Monday.

A bench comprising NGT chairperson Justice A K Goel and Justice Sheo Kumar Singh had taken note of a Hindi newspaper report dated December 24, 2020.

India: FIR against Tandav director for depicting Hindu gods in objectionable manner

Lucknow Jan 18 (PTI) An FIR has been lodged here against the makers of web series 'Tandav' and Amazon's India head of original content for allegedly depicting Hindu gods in a manner hurtful to religious sentiments of the people.

The FIR against Aparna Purohit, the head of Amazon's India head of original content, director of the series Ali Abbas, producer Himanshu Krishna Mehra, writer Gaurav Solanki, and an unknown person was lodged late on Sunday night by senior Sub Inspector Amar Nath Yadav at the Hazratganj Kotwali police station here.

India: Health services crippled in UP: Akhilesh Yadav

India: Covid shot: FIR after misleading pamphlets appear

Bareilly (UP), Jan 17 (PTI) A spate of pamphlets urging people of a particular community against taking anti-Covid vaccine shots and spreading rumours about their ingredients surfaced in the city here on Sunday, prompting police to lodge an FIR against unknown miscreants.

The pamphlets, found in posh Rajendra Nagar locality here, appealed to a particular community to avoid taking the vaccines, SP (City) Ravindra Singh said.
