India: Woman police constable shot dead by colleague in UP

Amroha (UP), Jan 1 (PTI) A police woman was allegedly shot dead here by another constable who is said to be a jilted lover, according to police.

The woman was shot on Sunday evening by Manoj who was posted at Syed Nagli. She died at a hospital late in the night, Gajraula police station incharge Ram Prasad Sharma said.

The condition of Manoj who also shot himself is stable. He apparently took the step after his feelings towards her were not reciprocated. A murder case has been registered and he is under police custody in hospital, the officer said.

India: Dr Kafeel Khan, 80 others included in list of history-sheeters in UP

Gorakhpur (UP), Jan 31 (PTI) Dr Kafeel Khan and 80 others have been included in the list of history-sheeters in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh and they will be on the radar of police, officials said.

The 81 people have been included in the list on the instruction of Senior Superintendent of Police Jogendra Kumar, they said.

The district now has a total of 1,543 history-sheeters, or persons with a criminal record.

Lucknow, Jan 30 (PTI) Aiming to turn Uttar Pradesh into a major religious tourism destination, the state government is going to build 1,038 new Ganga aarti platforms along the river in Bijnor and Ballia districts.

Ganga Aarti has been one of the most mesmerising attractions for people coming to the state for religious purposes.

India: Farmers' union digs its heels in at Ghazipur border, more supporters pouring in

Ghaziabad, Jan 30 (PTI) Support for the farmers' protest swelled on Saturday, as more villagers poured in at a key protest site on the Delhi- Meerut highway in Ghazipur on the border with Uttar Pradesh.

The Bharatiya Kisan Union-led protest against the Centre's new farm laws here looked like it was going slim on Thursday but more protestors have joined the stir, following a mahapanchayat of farmers on Saturday in Muzaffarnagar, while supporters also joined in from Haryana and Rajasthan districts.

India: Students fail to get subject marks despite fee deposit

Kanpur: Despite depositing the school fee the students fail to get their respective marks as the month comes to complete.

The list of students who have deposited their fee up to December 2020 has been sent by the class teacher.

But the subject teachers do not find time to release the mark. The class teacher even sent reminders to the teachers. 

There may be something hindering the process of releasing marks. But no information in this regard has been sent.

Not only parents but the students are also waiting for the results. 

India: Viewed film till interval, nephew watched later on half ticket

Kanpur: Happily describing the progress of his younger son's engagement, the 65-year-old Shafique Sahab began his stories of those past days when he used to create shields for going to the cinema hall. 

As he remembers those youthful days, he felt no compunction in revealing how he along with his nephew approached to view a film at Capital Cinema Hall situated at city's famous Latouche Road, not too far from his Chamanganj residence.

India: Youth, girl killed in UP, bodies hanged from tree by girl's family members

Bareilly (UP), Jan 29 (PTI) A youth and a girl were killed and their bodies hanged from a tree in the Mirganj area here, police said on Friday.

The youth, 19, and the girl, 17, were in a relationship, Senior Superintendent of Police Rohit Singh Sajwan said.

On Thursday, the girl's family members found them talking to each other at a secluded place and they in a fit of rage killed the duo and hanged their bodies from a tree, he said.

India: Govt approves closure of Lucknow based Scooters India

New Delhi, Jan 28 (PTI) The government has approved closure of loss-making state-owned firm Scooters India Limited and shutting down the operations of its units, the company said on Thursday.

PTI had reported a week ago that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) is believed to have given its consent to the closure of the Lucknow-based company.

In a BSE filing, Scooters India said the Ministry of Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises has communicated that the competent authority has approved the closure.
