India: Woman constable raped by policeman in UP's Gonda

Gonda (UP), Jan 13 (PTI) A constable has alleged that she was raped by a colleague in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district, officials said on Wednesday.

A case was registered in this regard on Tuesday night at the women police station, they said.

Superintendent of Police Shailesh Kumar Pandey said the policewoman accused the constable of raping her on January 10 on the pretext of showing her his room.

The woman alleged that he also threatened her of dire consequences if she resited.

India: Teenage girl gang-raped, murdered in UP's Aligarh

Aligarh, Jan 12 (PTI) The body of a minor girl, who was allegedly gang-raped and then killed, was recovered from near railway tracks in the Gandhi Park area here, police said on Tuesday.

They said efforts are on to nab three persons accused of the crime.

According to police, the girl student, aged 15-16 years, had gone missing from her house in a village under the Harduaganj police station area on Sunday morning.

Shortly after her family received a message that she has been kidnapped and demanded Rs 5 lakh as ransom for her release, they added.

India: Farmers threaten to 'gherao' UP Raj Bhavan

Ghaziabad, Jan 11 (PTI) A section of farmers protesting against the three central farm laws on Monday threatened to gherao' Uttar Pradesh Raj Bhavan on January 23.

Bhartiya Kisan Union spokesperson Dharmendra Malik in a statement said the agitating farmers would also burn copies of farm legislation on that day.

India: UP setting new records in ease of doing crime

Lucknow, Jan 10 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu on Sunday attacked the BJP government over law and order, saying the state is setting new records in "ease of doing crime".

In a statement issued here, Lallu said, "Anarchy and crime are at their peak in the state. As far as the law and order situation in UP is concerned, Uttar Pradesh is setting new records in ease of doing crime."

India: 15-year-old girl raped by man in UP's Shahjahanpur

Shahjahanpur (UP), Jan 10 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped at her home by a man from her village here when her parents had gone out, police said on Sunday.

A case has been registered against the accused who is on the run, they said.

Circle Officer Mahendra Pal Singh said the girl was raped at her home by a man from her village under Kanth police station area when her family members were away on Saturday.

The girl narrated her ordeal to her mother after she came back home and she filed a police complaint, he said.

India: 20 injured in clash over stray cattle in Uttar Pradesh

Chitrakoot (Uttar Pradesh), Jan 11 (PTI) A total of 20 people were injured in a clash between two groups over chasing away stray cattle, police said on Monday.

A heated argument ensued between Manish Tripathi and Suryabali Tripathi in Teermau village on Sunday which soon turned into a clash, they said.

Twenty people were injured in the clash and the condition of three of them was stated to be serious, SHO of Rajapur police station Anil Singh said.

A case was registered against 17 people in connection with the matter, he said.

India: 50-year-old widow raped in UP's Shahjahanpur

Shahjahanpur (UP), Jan 11 (PTI) A 50-year-old widow was allegedly raped by a middle-aged man of her village located within the Sehramau police station limits in this Uttar Pradesh district, police said on Monday.

Circle Officer (Sadar) Mahendra Pal Singh said the woman was allegedly raped by the accused on Saturday and a case was registered on Sunday evening. The woman has been sent for a medical examination and efforts are on to nab the accused, who is absconding, he added.

Singh said the accused knew the woman's son and used to come to their house.

India: AAP MLA arrested in UP, youth hurls ink at him

Amethi/Rae Bareli, Jan 11 (PTI) Aam Aadmi Party MLA Somnath Bharti on Monday had ink hurled at him in Rae Bareli and was arrested later for allegedly making objectionable remarks against the Uttar Pradesh government and the state's hospitals.

He was arrested for criminal intimidation and promoting enmity between groups, police said.

Hours earlier, a youth hurled ink at the Delhi MLA's face when he was emerging out of a guest house. Police said they are investigating into the incident.

India: UP govt to bring in a new tenancy-related ordinance

Lucknow, Jan 9 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to promulgate a tenancy-related ordinance aimed at safeguarding the rights and interests of both the landlords and tenants and check disputes between them.

The ordinance was approved in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday night and is likely to receive Governor Anandiben Patel's assent soon, said an official on Saturday.
