India: Fire completely doused at garments complex in Kanpur

Kanpur: The firefighters have brought the leaping fire under nearly absolute control, after five days of their relentless effort, in a garments complex in the Bans Mandi area here. 

At least 50 teams of the fire department were put into service to control the blaze, which broke out on Friday, officials said.

They added that a team from State Disaster Response Force and National Disaster Response Force was also pressed into service to extinguish the fiery flames.

India: AMU VC, Nripendra Misra's son nominated UP MLC

Lucknow, Apr 3 (PTI) Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor Tariq Mansoor and Ram temple construction committee chairman Nripendra Misra's son Saket Misra were on Monday nominated as members of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.

According to a notification issued by Chandrashekhar, Special Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh late on Monday night, the Governor has nominated a total of six persons as MLCs against eight vacancies.

India: Man caught on CCTV throwing 'black magic' bundle inside Azam Khan's house; arrested

Rampur (UP), Mar 31 (PTI) SP leader Azam Khan's wife has lodged a police complaint against an unidentified man alleging that he threw a small bundle inside the main gate of her house containing random articles, including clothes, and expressed fear that it may be associated with "black magic".

Police said they have arrested the man who is mentally challenged and also suspended four of its personnel -- deployed outside Khan's house -- for dereliction of duty.

India: Ready-made clothes burnt in the fierce fire at Kanpur

Kanpur: The fire broke out at about 2 am in the readymade clothes market, Bansmandi, and engulfed more than 500 shops, including AR Tower.

A fire broke out suddenly from a short circuit which later flared up and reached the shops on the upper floors.

The fire engulfed the surrounding buildings as well. Along with calling for a hydraulic fire brigade machine from Lucknow, the army has taken charge.

India: BJP leader held in UP's Amethi for selling land to police using 'forged' documents

Amethi (UP), Mar 27 (PTI) A case has been registered against a local BJP leader for allegedly selling a piece of land to police for the construction of the Police Lines for Rs 2 crore with the help of forged documents, while he had already taken a loan of Rs 78 lakh against it.

Superintendent of Police Elamaran G on Monday said BJP leader Omprakash alias Prakash Mishra had committed forgery and a case has been registered against him.

India: Weather balances residents' woes owing to power cuts in Kanpur

There are students who are fearing of the annual results and talking of remaining absent on the particular day for results.
