India: Farmer commits suicide in UP for stray cattle damaging his crop

Banda (UP), Jun 19 (PTI) A 52-year-old farmer allegedly hanged himself at his home in a village here as he was upset over stray animals eating his crops away, district officials said on Saturday.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Atrara tehsil Saurabh Shukla said Lalak Singh of Nandana village hung himself from a ceiling fan on Friday.

Even though the farmer had taken a loan of Rs 1 lakh from a bank, there was no pressure on him for repayment, the SDM asserted.

India: 15-year-old girl raped by relative in UP's Banda

Banda (UP), Jun 18 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her relative here, police said on Friday.

The victim had come to her maternal grandparents' home here. She had gone out to attend nature's call on Wednesday when 22-year-old Sunder Yadav, the cousin of her mother, allegedly raped her and fled, (SHO), Banda City Kotwali police station, Bhaskar Mishra said.

The grandfather met the Superintendent of Police along with the victim after which an FIR was lodged against the accused on Friday.

India: All youths accused of beating and cutting beared of elderly Muslim man out on bail

Ghaziabad, Jun 18 (PTI) All nine youths arrested for allegedly beating up an elderly Muslim man from Bulandshar in Ghaziabad's Loni area and chopping off his beard have been granted interim bail by a court here, said an advocate representing the accused.

Key accused Parvesh Gurjar, who had allegedly got Bulandshahr resident Abdul Samad picked up through his friends from Gokulpuri in East Delhi and beaten him up after confining him in a room in a desolate area, was given bail in the case by Chief Judicial Magistrate Sandeep Chaudhary on Friday.

India: SIT to probe fake Covid testing during Haridwar Kumbh - 'super spreader' of Corona

Dehradun, Jun 19 (PTI) The Uttarakhand Police has set up a special investigation team to probe allegations that fake Covid tests were conducted during the Haridwar Kumbh Mela.

One of the world's largest religious gatherings, the Kumbh was held in the state from April 1 to 30, and the notified area for the congregation covered various places in Haridwar, Dehradun and Tehri districts.

India: Humidity prevails as clouds are not bringing rains in Kanpur

Kanpur: Mostly cloudy and humid weather with slight rains penetrated the Jajmau area on Friday afternoon. Humidity does not end till the sunset.

Though rains have started in the afternoon, it was not sufficient. Sometimes the speed was fast while the intensity was not heavy.

Scanty rains are supposed to be causing the humid condition. The real feel of the evening temperature hovers to 30° Celsius.

Older people say heavy rainfall is the only solution to humid conditions. 

India: Youth arrested for raping minor girl in UP

Ballia (UP), Jun 18 (PTI) A youth was arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl in a village in Ballia district, police said on Friday.

Bablu Rajbhar (22) raped his neighbour on Wednesday in Maniyar police station area, Station House Officer Shailesh Singh said.

On the basis of the complaint filed by the victim's mother, a case was registered against the accused and he was arrested, Singh said.

The girl has been sent to the district hospital for medical examination, he added.

India: UP man arrested for objectionable' remarks on Lord Ram

Ballia (UP), Jun 17 (PTI) A man was arrested in a village here for making objectionable remarks about Lord Ram on Facebook, police said on Thursday.

The action against Akash Johanino was taken on the complaint of one Vidya Bhushan Jaiswal, said Nagesh Upadhyay, in-charge of Rasra Kotwali.

Johanino, a resident of Manda village, used filthy words about the Hindu god on the social networking site, he added.

India: Delay in budget release by UP gov halts tapping of nullahs

Kanpur: Delay in the release of the budget to close the big nullahs permanently is what the Jal Nigam bemoans. Though these are reportedly shut on paper temporarily, the polluted water directly falls into the Ganga river water.

A proposal to a sum of Rs 48 Crore was sent to the state government. Several reminders were later despatched but the amount has not been released so far.

According to a report, contaminated water up to lakhs of litres goes into the stream of the river daily before the Sewage treatment plant.
